Changed "Get Info" permissions, now system won't load

I made a huge mistake and hope someone can help. I clicked on the Macintosh HD icon, did "Get Info" and under Sharing, changed the setting for "Everyone" to "No access". I left the user (read/write) and admin settings the same. Immediately after, access to everything was cut off. After restarting the computer, the apple icon loads, the the spinner starts to show the system loading, then it freezes owith the grey screen + apple, but that's it. I've restarted multiple times, got in via command -R and checked out disk utilities - disk and permissions verify fine. Any ideas, or idid I forever padlock this system??

This is NOT true. Try Niel's solution first before trashing all your data. Of course in all cases, you should be doing at least daily backups to Time Capsule or another external drive.

Restart with the Command and S keys held down and run the following:

mount -uw /

chmod 1755 /

exit

II've tried this several times now, but am not getting in.

I keep getting the same message: is there a space between mount and -uw /

desperate to get this solved, any help offered would be great.

3,46am and finally got it sorted!. I'd been trying to do it as a guest user and finally worked out how to get back to my admin login. Command tab seemed to work, pure luck. Followed the codes and i am now staring lovingly at my home screen. It will be a frosty day in **** before I change user permissions again.
