Why does not the home button work?

It sounds like you are using the Accessibility features of the iPad - correct?

Start with this - reboot your iPad.

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

You might want to explain what is happening in a couple of sentences rather than trying to combine a couple of different and somewhat confusing thoughts into one sentence.

Please go back and read the last part of Demo's suggestion. Explain what you are ting to do and what actually happens.

Sounds like the Home button crashes. If crashes, you also cannot reboot your device.

Go to Settings>>General>>Accessibility, then turn on Assistive Touch. This will help you to use Home button but with a touch screen button. So now you are able to use a kind of Home button until you fix the hardware one.

Well I for one don't know how to "fix" the home button but it is a very common problem.. Usually due to over usage of the home button.. Which is apple has provided us with as ASSISTIVE TOUCH button that is an alternative to the home button. If your ipad still under the one-year warranty(if you have bought it) I would suggest yu go directly to the apple store with your ipad and show them the problem.. Hopefully they will be able to help you.. And (again hopefully) if your ipad does get fixed, I would strongly recommend the use of the ASSISTIVE TOUCH button as recommended by kaka dongguan!
