Use of Portuguese special characters

During many years I was a Microsoft (Intel) user, but right know I’m trying to convert myself in a Mac user, so recently I bought an iBook G4. I am facing a difficult to use Portuguese especial characters like: ç, é, ó, etc. There is no problem of keyboard layout because the Brazilian flag has been showed in the top of the screen. Also, when I use the Word Editor (Mac Office) the auto-corrector works properly and corrects automatically the text. So, the question is: How I can write Brazilian texts properly in this machine?

Hey, Doc. What's up? 🙂

English

To make your iBook keyboard work in brazilian portuguese, you need the US International Keyboad Layout. You can get it clicking the link mentioned above.
After you download it, just drag it to user>library>keyboard layouts

Espero que isso ajude e, muito bem vindo ao Mundo Mac.

Cheers,

JP

Are you using a Portuguese keyboard (with Portuguese layout)?

A quick hint is to hold down option key while typing. Try to open System Preferences > International > Input Menu, and select "Keyboard Viewer".
Then from the flag, select "Show Keyboard Viewer", and hold down Option key, and you should see the way to type those accented characters.

If you are using a Portuguese keyboard, there's a special key for ç if I remember correctly. (I don't speak Portuguese.)

Just for reference, in (US) English keyboard,
Letter with a specific diacritical mark.
Grave accent (`): option + `, then the letter
Acute accent (´): option + e, then the letter
Circumflex accent (ˆ): option + i, then the letter
Tilde accent (˜): option + n, then the letter
Umlaut accent (¨): option + u, then the letter
The letter “c” with a cedilla (ç): option + c.

Hope this helps.
