black ipad screen wont turn on

I have an Ipad 3rd gen that had the same screen wouldn't turnon problem, everything else worked (sounds and synced to itunes) and the 3 whacks on the apple logo on back made it work!!!!!! This is not a joke, it really did work

Your are the man!!!!! would have never thought to hit the ipad to FIX it.

My wife's iPad 2 did theblack screen thing this morning. I plugged it into my iMac and pulled up iTunes. Then I ran the IOS update, and the screen came back on. I was going to do the "percussive persuasion" next, if it did not work.

I too thought what do I have to lose. iPad 1 screen went blank and it still talked so I did several hard whacks on the back and it's now working again

i gave it a couple of small pats on the back plugged it into the itunes and restored it and hey presto the apple logo came on and now just restoring it all to the setting i had before CANT BELIEVE IT WORKED IM SHOCKED but happy 🙂

Thank you Stanjman! My iPad mini problems started after the recent ios 7.1.1 update!! I'd tried reebooting, resetting, restoring with and without backup, all without success, as the problem would always return sooner or later. I was just getting resigned to having to fork out for a new device when I found your post and tried the three whacks technique ... and it worked... !! 🙂 Thought I'd give it the test of at least a few days before writing, but it's still running like new. Unbelievable, but many thanks!! ..

I NEVER write reviews in these forums but I read them all the time for various reasons. My iPad 2 stopped working properly weeks ago. It would sleep, shut off, then require a hard restart to get it going. This worked multiple times with no real issue. Today, I went to go use it and it wouldn't turn on at all for hours no matter what I did. Even though I was prepared for the worst I was still fuming mad!!! I read several threads to no avail until I got to this one. I tried the 3 wack method and voila...eureka....IT FRIKKEN WORKED. I laughed so hard in disbelief I gave myself a headache. Thanks sooooooooo much!!! You gained 5000 cool points:-)

Oh my... I just knocked the crap out of my iPad and lo and behold, the **** thing is working. Thank you to whomever discovered that this was the solution to my black screen problem!??!?!?

I was having same issue and thought "this can't possibly work but it's work a try on the $400 paper weight I now have", it worked! Thanks so much!

Have you pressed the home button and lock button at the same time?

I just replaced my screen and thought I killed my ipad. I gave up and said why not, hit it three times, IT WORKED! Haha

Yeaaa.... well the problem w/ my bro's miniis that the light is COMPLETLY DEAADDDD!!!!! D: you can barely see the "hello" (I restored it) but it blacks out in not even a second O.O Plzz help some1 I don't wanna spend $250 to fix it!!!! O.O

Thanks Stanjman for the idea. The whacking didn't work for me neither dropping on the table. So I decide to take a risk and drop it on my rug about 3-4 feet off the floor screen facing upward. And to my surprise it work. Hope this help whoever in the same situation. Thanks.
