Is my Aperture library too big?

I'm having performance problems with Aperture in particular moving from one photo to another takes a l-o-n-g time. Could it be that my library is just too big? Its 70GB.

I imported my old iPhoto library into an existing Aperture library a little while ago and looking back the performance problems may well have dated from then.

There is one known problem with imported iPhoto libraries (since Aperture 3.3.2) - if your imported iPhoto library contains smart albums and you arrange the projects by date, Aperture may become sluggish, unresponsive, or even crash. See this post by AlexBrown: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4183094?ac_cid=tw123456#19183045

So, if your Aperture library should contain smart albums imported from iPhoto, I'd recommend to delete these albums and recreate them in Aperture.

But in any case, upgrade the RAM, if you can. It will make a large difference.

Is it worth doing a rebuild?

Before a rebuild make sure your update is current. A rebuild is a more involved operation than a repair.
