Is there any way to install a Codec in Final Cut Pro X so i can edit video content from Dxtory on my PC?
The Codec i'm using is "UT VIdeo Codec 12.0.1"
I've put it in Quicktime
(Mac HD>Library>Quicktime)
But the file still doesn't load in QT. I was wondering if i put it in Final Cut it might some how work in FCP?
There is no such a thing as "installing a codec in FCP X".
If the file does not play in Quicktime Player, then it won't play in FCP X.
Installing the QT component should have worked.

Strange, don't know why it won't play on mac?
What is the container format? AVI?WMV?MOV?
It maybe the case that, although the codec works in Quicktime (and I have made a few tests that indicate that it does), your file is not a quicktime movie file.
It's an AVI file.
I've tried different codecs. Lagrith Lossless and now this UT codec, which is supposed to work with mac.
What I generally do when I have "odd" codecs and containers, instead of filling my mac with "junk", is to convert the file to Apple ProRes 422 which is the best meat you can feed to FCPX.
There are many cheap converters for both PC and Mac, some even freeware like ffmpeg.

As far as I can tell, it works with mac inside a MOV container.
I have created a MOV file using this codec and it plays fine.
Then I had MPEG Streamclip rewrap the same video in an AVI container. On open, it crashed either on MPEG Streamclip or Quicktime 7. It opened in QT Player but showing only black video.
Does VLC play it?

Sorry to sound so stupid. Can you explain how you figured it worked inside a MOV container? I would like to do the same test to make sure the plugin is in the right place.
The only way i got this file to work, was to use Handbrake but the audio went all crazy. Sounded like robots.

Not stupid at all. After installing the codec, I opened one movie in MPEG Streamclip and used "Export to Quicktime...". In the options I set the codec to one of the options for UT, and let it convert. I then opened this in MPEG Streamclip, as well as in Quicktime Player, and it played perfectly.

I too just tried this with a video that i know works. I get the "error can't set the compression buffer"
Sorry, my mistake. I also got that error trying to create a quicktime file with UT codec in MPEG Streamclip.
I succeeded in creating this in Quicktime Player 7 Pro (this will not work if you only have the regular Quicktime Player 7, though; I had bought the Pro "key" several years ago and it still works).
