My ipod touch 3rd generation will not download any apps
I am wondering why my iPod touch 3rd generation will not download any apps or update the ipod or any apps. My version is still at 4.2.1

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.

Many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier. Thus, there are not that many good apps that are now compatible with 4.2.1

A 2G to 4.2.1. Requires iTunes version 10.X. If a Mac it requires OSX 10.5.8 or later. With OSX 10.4.11 you can only go to iTunes 9.X which gets you as high as iOS 4.1
