connect iphone to surface

I'm trying to connect the Iphone 5 to the Surface Pro 128.

I wish I could connect with wireless connection, but is it true I must use usb first? And then, since there is only usb 3 on the surface, would that work?

iPhone 5, Windows 7, windows 8 actually

Yes, Surface is running Itunes for Windows, and that is all working fine. I want to connect Itunes to the Iphone. With a previous computer, I thought I saw the possibility to make a wireless connection (using wifi or maybe bluetooth) to the iphone. But, again a vague memory and no documentation available, I thought one had to make a wired (usb) connection first, and then you can continue to connect via wireless. But I want to make the connection wirelessly from the start. If I have to use usb, I face the connector problem since I believe the usb 3 cables don't connect with usb 2 connectors.

Seems preferable to just use a wireless connection throughout the process.

To the best of my knowledge this is not possible. You must connect via the USB cable initially to set up wireless synching.

I believe the USB port on the Surface can accept the standard dock cable that came with your iPhone. USB 3 is certainly backwards-compatible with USB 2 devices unless Microsoft's horked up USB support in the Surface for some reason.

Regards.
