MacBook Pro - Logic Board

I have a quick question, but it requires a bit of explanation. I just got my 15" MBP back from Apple Repair. It had a high heat problem with a 4SNS/1/40000000'TmOP error on Apple Hardware Test. The fans never came on unless the temp was over 90*c under load (yes, it was blazing hot).

Apple Repair replaced;
Thermal Module W/Temp Sensor
PCBA_2.0GHZ,256VRAM(M1)MBPRO 15" (Logic board)

Anyway, I happened to glance at "About this Mac" "More info", and I see a serial number, and it was my original serial number. My question is how is this possible? I could have sworn I read somewhere that if the Logic Board is replaced you lose your serial number, but it's possible that I saw a reference to something else. Comments? I doubt I'll do anything about it, it's just curiosity at this point. I suppose it would be nice for future reference to know if I got a later revision board.

I'd also like to publicly state that Apple Repair not only returned my MBP in A1 condition (in fact I think they cleaned it :)), but the repair itself went beyond my expectations. Total down time was 5 days including a weekend. The machine now max's out at 62*c under load. (2x yes < /dev/null). Way to go guys, great job.

You're serial number is plastered all over the MBP inside of its case. They're supposed to program the new board with your serial number as a courtesy to you. However it sometimes is overlooked, and I am sure that's to what youre referring to. If they said they replaced it then they should have. Do you get the error anymore?

I had the same problem on my week 10 Macbook Pro, along with the same solution. My Serial Number remained the same. I believe they do reprogram the board to have the same serial number.

On a related note, my system has been running so much better since the thermal sensor and Motherboard have been replaced. However, I wasn't too happy that when I got the machine back there was a bit of glue on the upper-right handle corner of the screen bezel. This came off easily with rubbing alcohol though. Additionally, I think the SMC Firmware Update, along with the 1.0.1 EFI/BIOS Firmware Update have improved the situation further. It really is like a different machine than when I first received this computer.
