isight problems

Isight camera green light is on but no picture. I have not seen the light come on before. unless i was using photo booth. now it's on when i turn on my computer. i have tried to restart, but the light is still on.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

If the reboot didn't clear this, check for any active applications using the camera. {Such as here}

Then (assuming this is an Intel Mac) try resetting the SMC.

If that fails, then boot your installer DVD, and see if the camera is still lit.

If the camera or the indicator is still stuck, then you'll probably want to visit the local Apple store.

Because your problem persists after you restart Mac, try all relevant suggestions from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090.


Be sure to test more than one camera-enabled
Apple app.


(BTW--Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD." Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)


Also, only one OSX app may use the camera at a time. Check  > Systerm Preferences...

> Users/Accounts for login starup items that might be using your camera.
