My app of plants vs zombies crashes every time on the start screen then automatically shuts down to the home screen , I want to play it and have tried to re install
Again but I lose all my progress each time the app only works temporarily , any help?

you need to contact the developer of the game directly and make them aware of this.
Having the same issue only after updating to the newest iOS on my iPad. A google search reveals a lot of people with this exact same issue. I reported it to pop cap and you should too.
Reported to Popcap. Pro-forma response with usual 'try this and do that', eventually an acknowledgement there was a problem they were working on. Now a few months later and nothing.
Draw your own conclusions about the quality of Tech. Support. On the plus side, after the Queen's speech this week at least UK customers may be able to squeeze a refund from iTunes when the new law is passed on bad-egg apps.
