I saw one that was peeling at the 5th Ave store, but a few days later when I went back it was gone. I suspect they remove peelings ones rather quickly. I think in the short-term it's not a big problem. It is, however, disconcerting that the black macbooks actually have a thin layer of something that gives them the matter surface and that underneath they are shiny. It means that with time they will wear down - especially given how much people are polishing them to keep the smudges and fingerprints off!

I got my mum to make a soft leather bag for my black MB and it’s worth the investment. After 4 months so far, not a single scratch recorded.
Soft leather cost around $25 per yard with narrow width or you can find a unwanted leather jacket and cut it up to the exact dimensions of your MB.
The 2nd thing you need is to find a sewing machine and a person who knows how to operate it.
