Hi Ian,

I just thought I 'd see if I could tempt you to have one more go at finding that pesky keyboard viewer.

You got most of the way there, but you need to do one more thng before it will show up under the flag in your menubar.

In one of your earlier posts you said:

GOT TO THE FLAG IN THE MENU BAR.

WHEN I CLICKED ON THE FLAG, I WAS SHOWN TWO OPTIONS, NAMELY,

1) A CHECK MARK NEXT TO A FLAG FOLLOWED BY U.S.

2) OPEN INTERNATIONAL

UNFORTUNATELY, NO OPTION FOR KEYBOARD VIEWER SO I'M STILL STUCK AT THIS POINT

Follow exactly the same process but this time select the "Open International" option. A dialogue box will open up which has three "boxes" entitled "Language", "Input Type", and "Input Menu" across the upper part of it.

You need to use the "Input Menu" box, so click on it.

The window below these three boxes should now show three items with a line below them. The top one will be called "Character Palette" and the third one down should be called "Keyboard Viewer". Click in the little box immediately to the left of each of these words so a tick appears in each of them.

Now close up the whole "International" window by clicking on the little red buttton in the top left corner (as usual).

Have a look back under the "Flag" in the menu bar and you should now see two new options "Show Character Palette" and "Show Keyboard Viewer".

All Done!

Both of these can be useful for finding out how to use particular symbols in documents.

Cheers

Hi Rod:

Thanks for your assistance.

Followed your instructions and the keyboard viewer appeared.

However, I did not see the symbol for ÷ and if it were not for Red I would never know the secret combination of keys?

Is there anywhere I can locate a guide that explains what key combinations generate what symbols?

Once again, Rod, many thanks!

Cheers!

Now that you have the Keyboard Viewer pallete up Ian, press the Shift key and observe what happens to the Keyboard Viewer. Now press the Option key and observe what happens to the Keyboard viewer. Next, press both Option and Shift and observe what happens.

Thanks Red.

I followed your prompts and noticed the changes in the keyboard and have two questions:

1) The keyboard viewer is very small and difficult to read. Is there any way to make the keyboard display larger?

2) Didn't see a key for ÷ Is their a key for this symbol?

Red, thanks for everything and I hope I didn't drive you to drink...too much 🙂

Hello again, Ian.

1) In the top left hand corner of the Keyboard Viewer screen you will see three little "greyed out buttons all in a row (like the ones that appear in most windows, only these look grey). If you move your mouse pointer over them they will become coloured. Click on the right hand one of the three (the one which becomes green when you move the pointer over it). The Keyboard Viewer screen will get much bigger. (If you want to make it smaller again, click on the same green button and it will shrink).

2) I suspect that the ÷ symbol did not show either because you kept the shift key pressed down while you held down the option key , or because you had the "Caps Lock" key on.

With the keyboard viewer open press the option key only (and make sure that caps lock is off). You should now see the ÷ appear on the keyboard "map" in the same location that Red helped you to find it before.

I have finally arrive at my destination and as they say getting there is half the fun‹(•¿•)›

The patience of Red and yourself (The R&R Team) is very much appreciated and to be sure I will return those favors in areas where my expertise can help to assist others.
