If you are using an ipad in a room with a wireless projector, but your ipad is connected (with cables) to another projector, will the ipad search for the wireless projector?

Kids did (attempted to) do a presentation playing a movie through their ipad and projector (connected with cables). Everything worked fine for the tests outside the classroom. Once inside the room (which has an additional wirelss projector), their projector gave the "no signal" display. The kids worked to fix the problem, and they were able to get the movie started, but then after about 5 seconds, the projector defaulted to no signal. Is it possible that the ipad was looking for the wireless signal? Could the wireless havecaused an issue with the wired connection?
