Network home folder clients (10.8.2) freezing

Hi all,

I have a Mac OS X Lion Server (10.7.5, all updates, Mac mini server with TB RAID attached) serving network home folders to Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 clients.

Some of our users are experiencing freezes that manifest shortly after login. It appears that the shared volume is no longer available, based on the following system log entries. Again, this only happens to some users, but those users have it happen consistently...

Any insight?

Just got this note from Apple through the Bug Reporter:

We believe this issue has been addressed in OS X Yosemite. Please test with this release, and update this report with your results.

OS X Yosemite GM (Build 14A389)

Download from the Mac App Store

http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/

https://itunes.apple.com/app/os-x-yosemite/id915041082

Please let us know if that resolves the issue for you by updating your bug report.

Hopefully that's good news. Although is anyone actually brave enough to put OS X Yosemite on their server yet? 😁

fI ordered a new Mac Mini to replace our aging XServe which won't accept anything newer than Lion.
It will almost necessarily have to run Yosemite. I'm hoping that my network home folder problems go away with Yosemite. I'll return to give an update after the new server arrives and I'm able to migrate or rebuild everything. And I'll definitely be contacting Apple to let them know if there are problems. I plan to make good use of the 90 days, too.
