My iPod 2 doesn't want to accept any movie files, why?

I have an iPod2 running version 2.2.1 which I think is the best it can do. And it has had movies on it before,

My so is 10.7.5 and iTunes is 11 .0.1.

Ripped a DVD into an mp4, iTunes took it and said the iPod couldn't so it didn't sync. I exported it from QT into the format it said for an iPod touch, a m4v. Same message. The iPod can't play it.

What do,I need to do for my iPod to play movies again from iTunes that I imported from a ripped DVD?

Thanks

iTunes: May be unable to transfer videos to iPhone, iPad, or iPod

iTunes: Frequently asked questions about viewing and syncing videos

You may have to use a program to convert the format to one compatible with the iPod. There are many variations of mp4 and not all are compatible with the iPod. The 2G iPod can only play SD videos.

I suspect you have the original, 1G iPod, Those can go to iOS 3.1.3 that you get here:
