2 apple iphone 5's

me and my wife have an iphone each.. i sync my phone on my imac no worries.. but i synced my wifes phone the other day and all of a sudden she lost all her contacts, texts etc.i now have to go back 3 months in backups to retrieve her actaul contacts.

The funny thing is we both have different icloud accounts and passowrds and seperate itunes accounts. after ive restored its fine for a day or 2 then she loses her contacts again. their just numbers in her messages etc so its lost all their names.. .. dont know what to do as she losing all recent texts numbers etc all the time and having to go back months to restore is pointless in the long run.. could it be a memory issue or am i overlooking the obvious..

we dont have sperate profiles on our imac we just use mine will that make a difference even though our usernames and passwords are different!!.please any help appreciated its driving me nuts!!!

OK, so here's what I think you need to do.

Turn off the iCloud Contacts sync on the phone again and be sure to say "Keep"

Go to iCloud.com/contacts and open the Contacts icon. Click on the little wheel at the bottom and "Select All", then click on "Delete". This should delete all of the contacts currently on iCloud. BE SURE THE ICLOUD ACCOUNT YOU ARE DOING THIS TO IS YOUR WIFE'S!!!

Turn iCloud Contacts back on on the phone and back it up to iCloud. This should cause the contacts in the Phone book as they currently look to sync back to iCloud.

I don't want to mess things up for you further, so before doing any of that, you might want to (after you turn off the iCloud sync on the phone) turn the iTunes sync back on and sync them to iTunes. That way, if this method does not back up the contacts to iCloud as wanted, and somehow messes up what is on the phone in the process, you have the option to hook it back up to the computer and re-sync to get back to where you are now....

If it all works as expected, then you would just want to go in and turn off that iTunes sync again before you forget you turned it back on....

Keep me posted!

Hi Chris,

YAY!!! Glad we got the Contact sorted! Yes, you can just normally sync the music and photos via a regular iTunes backup. Either by connecting the phone and syncing, or OTA (Settings>General>iTunes Wifi Sync). I prefer to sync by physically connecting - don't think introducing the possiblity of losing connection into the formula....Also, both iCloud and OTA Wifi sync will only happen when your device is connected to a power source and when Wifi is up and running on the device.

For text messages:

iCloud saves the day.

You have all sorts of important stuff on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iCloud automatically backs it up daily over Wi‑Fi when your device is connected to a power source. You don’t have to do a thing. And when you set up a new iOS device or need to restore information on one you already have, iCloud Backup does the heavy lifting. Connect your device to Wi‑Fi and enter your Apple ID and password. Your personal data — along with your purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books — will appear on your device, automatically.3

iCloud backs up your:

  • Purchased music, movies,
    TV shows, apps, and books
  • Photos and video in the Camera Roll
  • Device settings
  • App data
  • Home screen and app organization
  • Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
  • Ringtones

So, Text messages are backed up to iCloud and can be restored from a backup if needed....

Hope this all helps!

Cheers,

GB
