iPhone 5 and Microsoft Sync Bluetooth (in Ford Vehicle)

I have an iPhone 5 that I am trying to pair and use with my Microsoft Sync Bluetooth that is built into my Ford vehicle. I am able to connect to my husband's Microsoft Sync (older version) in her Ford, but my iPhone won't work with my Bluetooth in my Ford. I am able to pair with my bluetooth (manually), but am unable to operate the iPhone (like play music) using the controls built into the steering wheel (like I am able to do when using my husband's bluetooth in her Ford). Also my iPhone does not connect automatically to the Bluetooth in the Ford when I get in the car everytime, on rare occassions it does, but for the vast majority of the time it does not, and I have to pair manually (again, my iPhone 5 does connect automatically to my husband's bluetooth when I get into his Ford). The only difference between the 2 Microsoft Sync Bluetooth's built into the Fords, is mine is a newer version, while my husband's is a couple years older.

Any troubleshooting suggestions? My iOS software is up to date. Maybe the bluetooth needs an update, though I have not heard of one? I have called the manufacturer, who said "it works how its going to work" (ha!). Does the issue lie with the bluetooth device in my Ford or with the iPhone?

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I got an update (3.6.2) from Ford/Microsoft this week and it this point it seems to have helped the issues with my iPhone5/Sync hookup. I haven't been in the car alot since I put the update in, but several of the issues seem better so far. I'll be taking a longer trip next week and should know for sure whether the update improved anything.

Has anyone else founf the 3.6.2 made a difference?

I would strongly suggest you restore the iPhone as new (not from a backup) in iTunes, "restore iPhone".

Restoring from a backup from when it worked will only put the content and settings (to a degree) back on the phone, if the operating system is the issue, it will remain until you restore as new.

So restore as new, then test it (when its still empty), then you can restore from backup and sync to get your content back on your iPhone.

I hope this helps.

On a different note

Also interesting is Alan5254's idea of disabling the autodownload of the phonebook, I too have noticed the address book seems to be a central piece to this issue. I will try that and see how it goes.

I love how people blame Apple for the inability to hook up to Ford's lame audio system. Let's look at the basic facts - Apple a technology company and Ford an automobile maker - who's technology will be better? Ford says Apple won't release the latest technology - what a bunch of b.s.

Short answer: Ford is lazy at getting their technology to work. I have a Ford Escape and the technology *****- big time. I also have a Volvo S60 and not only does it sync with my phone everytime I start the engine it also displays the artist and song my iPhone is playing. Volvo's technology is far superior. Ford's tech does not display much info at all - if and when it manages to sync. Ford needs to invest some effort to get their cheap and lousy audio system to do it's job - plain and simple.

Last week, ford has change the module of Sync and all issues are gone. Bluetooth and USB work perfectly.

I got Ford Fiesta 2013 and started with a bluetooth issue, it was getting disconnected and the system get stuck. People of ford say it could be an issue with the cellphone model, so if i could try using only usb to listen music. After a week using only USB the problem still happen, so they decide to test the car, but they didn't found any issue with their machines until one day i've drive to Ford center so they could watch what is the problem, after that they decide to change the module, they take two weeks, because to get the module and update their computers to install it and after wait around 2 or 3 months the problem was fixed.

Hey Patrick - Your going way off topic. This forum post isn't about SIRI so don't get on your high horse about Apple bashing. This is purely about the fact that iPhone isn't connecting to the crappy Microsoft Sync system in FORD vehicles. Pure and simple. The problem isn't with Apple because I connect flawlessly when I drive my 2012 Volvo. It has simple navigation through the stereo system that connects every single time. FORD and Microsoft are the problem and they need to get there lame *** act together. By the way, if your iPhone connects to your system - what the **** are you doing on this forum post?

Got a brand new 2014 Ford Escape, the bluetooth sync worked great for about 4 days, now my iPhone 5 will not pick up the sync signal even though the car is sending it. Also the USB, which was once working now no longer works as well. Got to love technology, always brings hassels. I tested my buddies Android phone and that works perfectly well. So I don't know if apple needs to do an update to their IOS or is this a Ford thing?

Ford has a new driver that you need to download for the Sync, just performed it and everything is paired up perfectly. Funny that neither Apple nor Ford tells you this. Plus Ford did not know how to do the install so I just did it myself supper easy.

Go to:

http://owner.ford.com - register your car and it will tell you have an updated driver to install, follow directions on the screen, make sure you have a thunb drive to download driver zip file to. Don't use Chrome browsers as for some reaason it does not give you all components of the driver. I used Internet Explorer for this task though that browsers *****.

Once file is on the driver take it to your car. Start car up, this procedure will take about 20 to 30 minutes and you have to leave car running the whole time.

First remove the navigation card

Next insert the the driver into the USB port in the carpartment between the seats.

The screen should automatically begin the update - if not go to setup, system, scroll to the bottom of the list and click on update I think it was, you will know which one to select.

If this seems to much for you to accomplish just take your car into Ford, good luck and let me know if there is issues.

Thanks Sparky. Great information and thanks for updating this forum. One question regarding what you said about removing the navigation card? I'm not aware of what a navigation card is and do all FORDs have one? I've got a 2011 Escape but am not sure I have a navigation card. Where do you remove it from?

thanks again, ZINCT
