Accessing PowerPC applications in Mountain Lion

Hi everyone, apologies if my questions have been asked before, but I was unable to find an answer.

My problem is that I just upgraded to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard and discovered that one of my programs doesn't work because it is a PowerPC application. I only need temporary access to the program in order to export my data to a new version of the same program.

Should I create an external drive that can run PowerPC applications? Is that difficult to do? I have a full retail version of the Snow Leopard OS. Is creating an external drive the best option for the temporary access that I need? Could I simply boot my now Mountain Lion machine from the Snow Leopard DVD, access the program via my external Super Duper backup, and export my data from there?

Thanks for your help!

If the backup is a bootable clone, connect it, restart the computer with the Option key held down, tab to it, and press Enter. If not, insert the Mac OS X 10.6 install DVD, restart with the C key held down, and install it onto a blank partition or drive.

I'd like to, but the program actually needs to convert and export the files so that they are compatible with the new version. I backed up just the one data file that I thought I needed, but discovered that the upgraded program itself (and the only version that runs on Mountain Lion) wouldn't recognize my data.
