i have plugged in a hard drive into my macbook, opened time machine, but my hard drive does not appear. why?

How is it formatted?

hi allan, well i can't really access it so cant format anything. i used to use that hard drive for my sonos system, but not anymore.
Sonos appears to be Windows based, so I am guessing it is formatted as NTFS which Time Machine can't use.
Reformat using Disk Utility to HFS+

so plug it into my PC and reformat it like that? how do you do that? i have a PC as well.
do you think there was a disk with this ard drive?
Does the drive appear in Disk Utility? If so, that would be the easiest way to reformant the drive as Allan suggested.

i tried to find the hard drive everywhere on my mac, couldn't see it.
Look in the Utility folder which is located inside the Applications folder.
You don't want to do anything with the disk on a PC if you want it to work on the Mac. They both use different formats.
