Problem with compatibility report when trying to install windows 7 on mac

I'm trying to put windows 7 on my son's Mac. I've been able to partition the hard drive but when I try to install windows 7 I run into a problem with the so-called compatibility report. It tells me to remove the installation disc then restart the computer, then insert the installation disc and restart the upgrade. The only way I can get the disc out is to turn off the computer. When I restart the computer and hold down the option key to get icons on the screen, I insert the windows disk, click the arrow beneath as per the instructions, but then it eventually takes me back to the compatibility report and its the same problem all over again. I'm not sure if I am talking sense, but does anyone know how to get past this compatibility report and simply install windows? I thot partitioning the hard drive but would be the biggest problem, but that was relatively simple. Most grateful for any advice

You are performing an upgrade, and you have to make a clean install (a custom install). When the installer asks you to the method you want to use to install Windows, choose the second one (advanced), and then, install Windows on "BOOTCAMP" volume. You have to format the volume first so, after choosing "BOOTCAMP", go to Advanced > Format. After doing this, you will be able to press "Next" and the Windows installation will start

You must make a clean install. An upgrade will work only if you have Windows XP or Windows Vista installed on your Mac, and you can only do it starting the Windows installation from Windows, without starting the computer from the Windows disc.

Select the advanced option to make a clean install and follow the steps of my first comment. From what you say, I think that you have a Windows upgrade version, so you may not be able to activate Windows after installing it
