My podcasts app shuts down within 10-15 seconds of opening and starting a podcast. I have already tried restarting my phone, updating itunes and re-syncing my phone, etc. The app worked fine yesterday and now does not work.

Try removing the app and re-installing it from the app store. I couldn't tell if you had tried that yet.

This is happening to me too! Already did a restart and reinstall of the app. One thing I noticed- it looked like it was loading the APM Marketplace podcast cover art right before the crash every time. No idea what is causing the app to quit.

Any ideas?

This update also crashes for me at about 12 seconds every time. I'm using an iPod touch 5th gen., iOS 6.1.3. Tried deleting and reinstalling app, rebooting the device, and shutting off automatic download and syncing. No luck. Cupertino, we have a problem.

Try completely quitting and relaunching the app. Apple's pulled a switch, silent and sneaky, like a fart in an elevator and nearly as welcome.

It looks like Apple, in its infinite wisdom has decided to "improve" the app and its interface. You'll also notice the useless, but truly lovely analogue audio tape recorder (is there any other kind?!) animation is gone, too. What it lacked in function it more than made up for in stunning realism. I loved staring at it. Too bad.

The app seems to be working for me now after two reinstalls, a reboot of the device and about twenty attempts at getting it to function. I notice that the tiles on the initial screen have rearranged themselves. It was after that the app stayed up.

Just adding a 'me-too' here.

iPhone 4S with iOS 6.1.3 installed. The app launches then crashes after 5-10 seconds. Have deleted and re-installed the app and no luck.

Add me to the list of people affected. iOS 6.1.3 on a 64 GB 4S.

I noticed that when I updated to Podcasts 1.2 it crashed after a few seconds, again and again, unless I was in airplane mode. I deleted and re-added the app and it seemed to be ok while it was empty. As I was adding my podcasts back to the app all seemed fine, but one particular podcast seems to be causing the app to crash. I'm not sure I should list it here because I don't want to be seen as Spam, but for those affected, fire up Airplane Mode to disable your network connection, then launch the app. I'm guessing it won't crash. I have a feeling something in the update process is what's causing it to fail. Whether you want to try deleting all of your podcasts and reading them to see which one kills the app, or deleting them one at a time to see when it remains working, either test should net the same result.

This 'solved' the crashing issue for me but I've now lost all my podcasts, so hardly a solution.

Turn on airplane mode, go into Podcasts, delete all your podcasts from the first screen, turn off airplane mode and start adding back podcasts.

Pretty disappointing from Apple.

This is also happening to me as well.....and I have quite a few podcasts I'd like to be able to listen to if it wasnt for a buggy app....

Seems to me that every time they try to change something to make it better, they break something else.....I don't know who their application engineers are, but they do an incredibly terrible job at QA and testing their work prior to release.....

As usual, horrible job with this app Apple....just horrible. 😠

I noticed mine starting to do that a couple of times yesterday.

I closed out all the apps, did a complete shutdown, started back up, went into the app and it worked after that.

I don't know if it was a software bug or a memory problem - but this did fix my problem.

It didn't happen any more yesterday or so far today.

Didn't fix mine at all....

Not only did I update IOS but I shut the phone off and also did a hard reset....

Still the same crappy Podcast app, only now its worse because it won't play ANYTHING....

Its amazing to me that some of their application developers and software testers still have jobs.....a monkey could figure out something that crashes after 10 seconds. 😠

There is an update. Try version 1.2 and see if it fixes your crashing problems.

I thought that was pretty evident from the OP and people agreeing....

The app has never truly ever worked correctly, but now it won't even play making it a virtual paper weight

Actually if you read the OP, you'd notice that it was posted on March 9 and refers to v6.1.2. I guess that won't keep you from complaining anyways.

Frankly, I think the way to go is iCatcher or Downcast or Pocket Casts....

They may not be free but at least they aren't as buggy or inept as the software Apple puts out themselves....
