My iPhone 4S will not sync with iTunes

(This a recent problem for me. I used to have no trouble syncing my phone.)

When I try to sync my iPhone 4S with iTunes, it does not sync any music, movies, books, or photos. All my apps are still available on the phone.

I have the latest version of iTunes and iOS. I have tried every possible combination of settings, I have restarted my MacBook Pro and my iPhone, I have done a "restore from backup" on my phone, I have restored the phone to factory settings and then tried to sync, and I have tried disconnecting the phone multiple times. The only thing I can think of that I have not tried yet is reinstalling iTunes, but I haven't had the time to try that yet.

Has anyone else experienced the same problem and solved it? If so, could you give me any tips on how to fix this?

Much appreciated!

Same problem over here, updated itunes and ever since I did that I'm unable to sync new songs to my iphone 4, I can sync new playlists, and all my old songs are in the playlist, but the new ones aren't ? This is just wierd ? I have tried to drag the playlist to my device as mentioned in an earlier reply, and tried to sync manually, and tried factory settings, I tried to sync by not selecting to sync my "whole music library" but by ticking every single box in the pop-up screen you get when you select to sync "selected playlists, artists,..." nothing works, tried to change cables, did not work, I've been using the same cable to sync for about 2 years, and it is only since I updated that I had a problem, really, really anoying...

just had the same issue since updating io7 and itunes 11 (oct 2013)

been using itunes/ipods/iphone since the 2nd gen ipods and feel i'm semi expert. most of my iphone content is not from itunes store or on the cloud.

tried the following:

unticking, ticking songs and playlists

restoring phone from backup

restoring phone as new

backup to computer and icloud on/off

tried 2 cables

all without success

just tried your tip and dragged a purchased itunes album onto my listed iphone (device), hit sync and it's now filling it with all my songs (and videos - hopefully)

thanks for that

I've had same/similar problem the past two days after the last iTunes update this past Sunday night. My music library sync'd fine with my iPod after the update but would not sync at all with iPhone and iPad.

I spent a total of about 1.5 hours with Apple tech support (2 calls) and they were at the point of telling me to try taking my iPhone and iPad back to factory settings and starting fresh. One of them told me I had to uninstall iTunes and all components from my laptop and sent instructions for how to do that. So, I waited for my son to get home from work.

He looked everything over and then, with each device plugged into laptop one at a time, he unchecked Sync Music, Applied the change and all music was deleted from each device. He then went back and checked Sync Music with Sync Entire Library still selected, applied changes and did another sync. WA LA!! All songs and playlists, including new songs and playlist, appeared on both iPhone and iPad. Saved me the major hassle of reinstalls and starting all over again.

Apple should seriously consider putting my genius son on their payroll. He admires Steve Jobs, LOVES Apple products and knows his way around them. (Yes, I know Steve is not physically here but he IS still here.)

Proud Mama 🙂

All I can say is the efforts of Apple to resolve this deserves a zero. This thread started in March and is still going on. The common thread is that people are having to do ridiculous things like re-install software, reboot hardware, and start all over again. How is that reflective of "synchronization". The word "synchronization" means, according to the WIKI, "the coordination of events to operate a system in unison." My iphone refused to sync calendars. I lived with that because there was no solution found anywhere on the Apple support forums that worked. Now it refuses to sync contacts. Apple needs to spend less time trying to make its operating system look like "Hello Kitty" and maybe support "Hello, it works".

I have just encountered this problem this morning after installing iOS 7.1. I decided to pop a few more tracks on my iPhone 4S but nothing... just keeps on preparing to update. I tried lots of different methods but the one that worked for me was backing up to itunes (including apps) in anticipation of doing a full restore and then thought I would just click sync after it had finished. For some reason it just worked <- get what I did there?

Everything seems to be fine now. It is not the most elegant solution but it may sort some things out for you guys.
