How can I recover my iPhone 4 without restoring? It went into the recover mode while I was updating it.

I think part of the problem is my memory space had been exceeded. I own a 8 gb, but it had about 8.2 according to itunes. I was going to delete some pictures and videos after updating, but it never came back. Now it's just a screen with the usb pointing to itunes.

I've tried:

Holding the home button and power button for 10-15 seconds
iRecovery
TinyUmbrella
RecBoot
Crying
Pleaing

However, as soon as the "reboot" apple appears for a couple seconds, the recover screen comes back (usb->itunes).

Can anyone help me? I have family pictures that I don't want to delete.

If they restore, Photos would be lost. 😟

If Hosts file was modified, which I doubt actually is, alternate course would have been to use another Mac/PC after retrieval of Photos.

Since they tried iRecovery, RecBoot AND TinyUmbrella, why would you doubt the the Hosts file was modified? Just one would do it.

It turns out that I was fortunate enough to have backed up my phone JUST before trying to update it, so my pictures are saved after all!

I have! I just have recent pictures that I hadn't backed up yet that I'd like to keep =)

However, I just tried to restore it to factory settings, but it still won't let me.

I couldn't remember whether I did back up my phone before the update so in a state of panic, I assumed not. I blame the unfortunate hour that this occurred at 4am, fighting sleep and finishing homework. =)

Next time, If there is any, first of all check backup folder in iTunes, to see if there is a backup file available time-stamped when you just connected iPhone in iTunes and started Restore.

Can you get a Wi-Fi connection on your iPhone?

I got an Internet connection on my phone, went to SETTINGS --> GENERAL --> SOFTWARE UPDATE and updated my Software wirelessly (no iTunes involved).

When I connected my phone to my Computer again and iTunes popped up, it showed that my iPhone software was up to date. Then I could restore to an old back-up.

How can I recover my iPhone 4 without restoring? It went into the recover mode while I was updating it.
