a fix for the squishy mouse button/unresonsive mouse button

Hello,

After being annoyed by the macbook mouse button being very "squishy" and unresponsive in certain areas, and sometimes not registering a click at all, I decided to take a closer look and I found a quick and simple way to fix the issue.. (this might not work for everyone, but it worked very well for me)

If you remove the battery, and inside the battery compartment you look at the metal part underneath the mouse button, you'll notice a small round pushed out part in the metal... if you push on this metal section a little bit you'll notice that the clicker responds differently and isn't as squishy. So what I found was if you take a tiny piece of paper and fold it a bunch of times so it is small enough to fit just over that round metal section, you can put it over the round section in the metal and put the battery back on and it will keep a constant pressure on the metal, thus making the "squishy" feel of the mouse button go away almost completely.

The trick is getting the right thickness of paper depending on how many time you fold it to fit it onto the circle metal part, if it is too think it can make the problem worse, and if its too thin, it wont push enough and wont help at all.

I hope this helps for anyone having the same problem with the mouse button, from day 1 my macbook has had this problem, and I was glad to find such a simple fix.

ok, probably a stupid question, but with the heat issues and whatnot on the macbook, is anyone worried about the paper under the trackpad burning or causing a fire? i realize that the battery doesn't get THAT hot, but I'm just wondering...

I tried the paper trick and it works like a charm. I'm hesitant to take my macbook back and exchange it because i've had it 12 days, and it's the only issue i've had with it. (knock on wood)

Hi guys.

Can people whose MacBook has been exchanged confirm that the problem doesn't come back after a few weeks of use ?

I have a MacBook and it has a totaly silencious and "squishy" rackpad button which make it nearly unusable (impossible to know if I clicked or not) and I plan to have it repaired (yes, it is more than two weeks old, I can't have it exchanged). But since I'd like to be sure that it will not reappear later...

I had the same problem, but I unchecked the "Ignore
accidental track pad input" in the KeyBoard and Mouse
Preference pane. Now it doesn't do that anymore.

Try it. It worked for me.

When I received my MacBook it had an already unusable squishy mouse button, so I returned it to get a new one. The new one was slightly better.

I tried this fix and I must say that first impressions are that it really improves things. Not only with the mouse button, which in the meantime had become so unresponsive that I had to hammer it with a one-in-three luck ratio, but also with the keyboard.

I think I set the 'accidental mouse input' setting a while back and looking back, I can connect that to a worsening of the situation.

Now that I have unset that, the situation has improved immediately. I think I will also look at the physical situation, but I can corroborate that this has really made a change for me.
