iTunes Match error on some songs

Recently (within the past 4 weeks or so) I have had issues getting iTunes Match to upload/match about 10-20% of the songs I've added to iTunes. My issue is similar to that desribed in this thread (I'm getting the little cloud with the exclamation point next to the troublesome songs), except all the songs in my iTunes library are in Apple lossless format (ripped from CDs), and so as a solution I tried to convert them to AIFF format and then back to Apple lossless. This, however, is not working.

What's going on here? Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

Michael, I have spent hour after hour trying to get my music back on my devices. Most of my music will not even toad to iCloud, more than 70% of my library shows an error. Ever since I added iCloud and iMatch, my music is unavailable. I would like to go back to the old way of choosing artist, song, etc. is gone. It only shows that music will sync via iCloud? How do I get my list back? Please help!! I need my music.

I've also been having some problems with tracks refusing to upload and staying with the dotted cloud symbol forever. I tried the Apple advisory tricks plus some I found on forums. a) Turn iTunes Match off then on again - no improvement. b) Delete the tracks, including delete from icloud and then re import them - no improvement c) Import a second time and right click to Add to Cloud - second copy shows up as a copy and is ignored.

What did (eventually) work for me though was to create a new version with a different sampling speed (or format). The change in sampling speed or format seems to fool iTunes Match into thinking it's a new file and uploading it.

First go to iTunes preferences and change the format for importing. For example if it was importing in AAC 128kbs, change it to iTunesPlus, if it was AAC iTunes Plus change it to custom 320kbs. Increase in sampling should mean little loss of quality in the new copy. Then I used iTunes to make a new version, which appeared next to the old one. Being cautious I Updated iTunes Match next. Then I deleted the old version in iCloud and trashed the files. Then I ran Update iTunes Match a second time. Problem solved for the 50 or so tunes that were previously stuck.

This has likely been answered already - but if not, here's what I've found is a work-around:

  • Convert the "error" files into Apple Lossless format
    • Highlight files in question
    • from the iTunes menu, select File | Convert | Create Apple Lossless Version
  • Delete (or backup if you're extra cautious) the original files. This may cause the status of the new Lossless versions to show "Removed" in the iCloud status...disregard that.
  • Select the new Lossless versions, then Right-Click | Add to iCloud Music Library

This should successfully upload the new Lossless versions to iTunes Match. Enjoy!
