SMC Update 1.1 Macbook Pro Retina 15" with Bootcamp Win 7 FPS in Games

I have the 15" Retina Macbook Pro, and I have definitely had issues with framerate in games played on bootcamp windows 7. The game I am testing fps is Rift. I noticed when plugged in, the fps drops significantly compared to when it is not plugged in (on battery.) Running on ultra video settings at 1920 x 1080, when plugged in I am getting between 7 to 15 fps after about 3 minutes of sustained use. When unplugged however I get a sustained 34+ fps.

I installed the two new updates ( OSx 10.8.3 and MBPr SMC Update 1.1 ) in the hopes they would resolve my issue. However I am seeing the same fps problems as before.

Additionally while running the game the fan spins like crazy at all times and the power cord gets quite warm. Upon quitting the game, the fan continues to spin wildly with no end.

Can anyone else reproduce these observations? I had an open ticket with Apple to fix this prior to the update on my machine. I was so excited when I saw the release notes to these two updates as it appeared they would directly address my problems. Unfortunately there has been no significant change. Needless to say, my work order shall remain open...

This is ultimately what helped my Macbook Retina under Windows 7. I've had plenty of issues with framerates. At first SMC resets seemed to help. For games like Battlefield 3 it would work, but over time frame rates and responsiveness would drop dramatically. Even ona game like Counter Strike GO I'd notice problems.

Interestingly, I live in Canada, where it is mostly cool. During the hot summer days, I'd notice that that is when I'd get most of my issues. SMC seemed to temporarily fix it. Also, unplugging the magsafe would sort of help (probably as it kicked the fans up).

I limited my max processor state to 99%, minimum processor state to 99% (plugged in). Right after I did this performance improved and stablized where just moments before there were issues without having to reset the computer.

The method that Shannon told works. Thanks. You can change the setting by going into power option then advanced power option. There you will get different options just above display you will get an option processor power management. In that you will get minimum processor state. In plugged in option change the value 5 to 100. Lagging while playing game would stop.

More power option > change plan settings > change advanced power settings > processor power management > minimum processor state
