running 10.4.11 on G4 and unable to install java

I'm resurrecting my G4-PPC that's running 10.4.11 and need to install java. I deleted all old versions and downloaded Java for 10.4, Release 9. I am unable to install it or even open wtih Installer. When I attempt, the icon for Installer flashes on the dock, but then disappears. Any help?
