Does anyone else get the following message when trying to use boot camp on new 3tb iMac
The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.
OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)
Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.
OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)
Please post the rest of the error message.
The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.
The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.
Is there more than one partition (have you created one)
No, as requested by Apple tech, deleted drive and reinstalled OS X, added the 10.8.3 update and got the message listed above.
When you deleted (erased) the drive did you select GUID partition table and HFS (Mac Extended) format ?
I'm getting the same error. AND, it's a new error since the recent update of bootcamp. I've partititioned this same drive before with bootcamp without any trouble. (But I always ended up restoring it, with bootcamp assistant, back to a single partition because I couldn't get Windows to install on my 3 TB drive.)
The new update allegedly adds support for 3 TB drives, but really it seems only to have removed what partial support I already had.
Here's a screenshot of Disk Utility, showing I have a single partition, formatted correctly, with a GUID partition table.
same problem over here, hope Apple wil fix this soon....
As I already mentioned in another thread, I got the same problem on a late 2009 iMac 27" iCore7 with a 3 TB HD.
This is very frustating, Apple promised to have support for 3 TB drives but I can't see any evidence for that!
With 10.8.3 Bootcamp and Win8 install work like a charm. No DVD needed. Win8 install image and drivers are packed on the same usb stick (or similar device) and the installation and driver upgrade process are a clean sweep through.
Solved!
There many who made this work, so there is some evidence.
Well, that sounds great but I hope Apple solves these Bootcamp problems for those that aren't that lucky.
And that those who so far have been unable to install try again while they are waiting, obviously it can work. So download and read the directions, ensure that your Mac is in the recommended state, unplug all devices not required for the installation and try again.
What would be the solution then? (without formatting your entire HDD and have to put back your backup of 1 TB that is taking 4 hours...)
Bootcamp keeps saying your HDD has to be formatted MacOS Extended (journaled)
But is is already formatted that way:
It is in Dutch, but i hope you understand the problem.
I have 10.8.3, Bootcamp version 5.0.2, problem not solved....
Unplug the external drive and try again.
I know, some have success and some don't at first, you are in group 2. As these drivers are but a few days old nobody has much experience, follow the directions I gave to Moowriece
