My I pod is version 1.1.5 (4B1) OLD. Until a few months ago I had no problem syncing content from Itunes on my Computer. Since updating Itunes my device is not recognized and can't sync.

I have old ipod version 1.1.5 (4B1). Until I downloaded the latest update for itunes I had no problem syncing music, books. sync option in itunes is greyed out and error message that my ipod is not recognized/connected. Since this ipod is second hand from a relative I also don't know how to connect to my home wifi hotspot. I'm a complete newbie to ipods but don't want to buy a new one since I listen to music rarely on it but do use it to listen to audio books on long trips which I take quite often. I really need someone to walk me thru. Thank you to anyone who can help me. I know newbies are a pain in the neck but I have an excuse, I'm OLD, not raised in the computer age. 😕

iPod touch, Windows Vista

If you have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar

next See:

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

I would first try

Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP

or

Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

Also try new cable and different USB port.
