Why does my husband's Apple ID keep showing up on my device?
Just got a new iPhone 5 and I'm trying to download apps, but my husband's Apple ID keeps appearing instead of my own. How do I fix this?
iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.2

This means you transferred apps from your iTunes library on your computer that were downloaded with your husband's Apple ID or iTunes account.
All apps, all paid and free apps include DRM protection which is tied to the iTunes account that was used to purchase/download the apps.
You could change the Apple ID that you are signed in with in Settings.
Settings > ITunes and App Stores > is the Apple ID displayed there yours or his? If his tap on it and sign out from his Apple ID then sign back in with your ID.
If you are signed in with your Apple ID and you still get notices about your husbands ID then you must have either synced your phone to an iTunes library running his Apple ID and transferred apps associated ith his ID. It's case you might consider wiping your phone as new and starting over. This create your own account on the computer that you share or use your own computer to set up your iTunes account using your Apple ID and set the phone up with your Apple ID.
My phone is new. I just bought the phone yesterday. I can't find a way to get his AppleID cleared. My AppleID appears as the one in the ITunes and App stores settings as you mentioned. I've never synced his iPad to my computer (not sure if he did on his own though).
If home sharing is off, why would his ID appear?
Where does it appear, if not in the iTunes/App store? Do you mean iCloud, iMessage?
Where did the 3rd party apps that are available on your iPhone originate?
All were purchased/downloaded with your Apple ID/iTunes account?
This should be helpful: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
It appears when I try to download an update for Words with Friends in the App Store.
Yes, they were purchased and installed through the App store. It's Words with Friends.
This means the Words with Friends app installed on your iPhone was originally downloaded with your husband's Apple ID/iTunes account.
It must have been purchased under your husband's app store account, not yours.
So, if I delete that app and then reinstall, it should solve the problem?
Didn't answer my question. There is no other place to purchase/download an app for iOS devices except from Apple's App store - not with a non-hacked iPhone anyway.
All were purchased/downloaded with your Apple ID/iTunes account?
Yes.
You need to delete this app and any other app on your iPhone that was purchased/downloaded with your husband's Apple ID or iTunes account originally and purchase/download all apps for your iPhone with your Apple ID or iTunes account only.
Obviously not or you wouldn't be prompted for your husband's Apple ID or iTunes account to download an app update for WhatsApp.
