Lost my iPod touch 4th generation

A few months ago i lost my iPod and just last week on my the Lost my .. App on my ipad it notified me saying if I wanted to change any settings. How would I be able to track down my iPod if someone else has it and has changed the account name? Would I be able to retrieve it back or not?
