I think someone put Spyware on my wifes Phone called Ownspy

We woke up this morning to a text message. It was a text message from the culprit but he obviously didn't send it. It said "Ownspy Interception Momcell". I am assuming the program was telling him that his phone was making a call or something because it was his moms phone number. The person has had remote access to the phone so I am worried that he has put something on her phone. I've googled the Ownspy stuff and have not found a way to get rid of it. The only way I can think of is restoring to factory defaults, but will that even do anything with this kind of program? Were willing to restore if we have to. Her phone is not jail broken in anyway, unless he jailbroke it without her knowledge, so I don't know exactly what's going on. Her phone connects to itunes but I cannot find anything about that program listed anywhere. I don't know if its even there but getting that text message this morning makes me think that her phone is in his ownspy network. Can anyone help me please?

From what I can see it looks like the app requires that the phone be jailbroken.

Backup the phone to iCloud or to iTunes. Factory restore. Then restore from backup.

That will kill the jailbreak and in turn the app causing your problem.

The phone has to be jailbroken in order to install "Ownspy". That means, whoever jailbroke the phone had to have physical access to the phone.

You may want to contact the police. I would also suggest turning the phone off, as it can be monitored remotely.

Is there any sure way to tell if the phone has been jail broken? I don't do this to my phones so I don't even know what to look for. I plugged the phone into the computer this morning and it did connect to itunes. I also did a search for "cyndia" and "Ownspy" and nothing came up in the phone. Any way to be 100% sure though?

The whole point behind software like this is to insure a user cannot find it on the device. Otherwise it wouldn't do much good.

If you even suspect this has been installed, you need to completely wipe the phone. However, depending on how the phone was jailbroken, this might not work. This software is designed to be removed remotely, by whoever installed it.

Look, doing something like this, may very well be illegal. I suggest you contact the police or your local district attorney's office.

try searching for "cydia' instead of "cyndia". But that's no guarantee, as you cydia is only one of the ways to jailbreak a phone.

Cydia, BTW, is the latin name for the apple borer worm.
