Recently I've been trying to find a way to save my iMessages history from my iPhone 5s to computer. I'm aware that Apple saves text messages and iMessages in it's iPhone backup, but unfortunately I am not much familiar with SQLite databases.
Finally the app/program mentioned here helped me transfer all my iMessages and texts to my computer: http://www.easyphonerecovery.com/how-to-backup-save-iphone-text-messages-to-pc-o r-mac.html
This software can transfer iMessages to a computer as a Text and HTML file with all the useful meta information, including date, time, and who said what. In trial mode it lets you transfer 20 messages from each contact. You need to pay if you want to export a really large number of text messages/imessages.
There are no apps for that, just 3rd party software, like iphone backup extractor. Do a google search to find out more softwares.
Thank you but excuse my ignorance. I had Googled this and found a few 3rd party products. But when I read how and what they do, they refer to extracting VMs from the iTunes backup. Problem is I don't see VMs in the iTunes backup. Am I not knowing where to look or do these 3rd party products find and extract files (like phone vm messages) that don't show up in iTunes.
Thanks again for your help.
As long as you backup using itunes http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766 your voicemail will be in the backup.
After you have download the software, it will ask you to plug your phone to your computer, then it will pull the lastest backup, for you to look at, then you can go to voicemail and save it to your computer.
You can use this to extract them directly from your phone:
The product description lists everything it extracts EXCEPT voice mail messages. It includes text messages but doesn't mention phone messages. Do you know if it does in fact include phone messages?
Yes.
I installed TouchCopy and it looks like a great program. But I can't find anything in there that will copy phone voice mail messages. It will copy call logs, test messages and voice memos...but I just don't see how/where to do phone voice mail messages. If anyone has used this product to do that, can you tell me where I find that option?
Very strange. The link you sent has instructions for what I want to do. Suggests that if I don't see the option I should go to Options > Control Bar tab and make sure Voice Mail is selected. But the Options dialog has no Control Bar tab. I just downloaded this so I must have the current version (says version 12.07). Perhaps this feature is only available in the purchased version, not free download?

Correct.
iExplorer or DiskAid allow you to export your VM msgs. I got one vm off to test, but it wouldn't surprise me if you have to purchase the program for taking many msgs off, certainly when I selected 'export all' it asked for the registration code. Perhaps they charge for that convenience of exporting all.
iExplorer does a lot though. you can peruse your backups, fix your 'other space' problem and otherwise manage your phone more powerfully.

I purchased the s/w and activated it and still have no Control Bar option in the Options dialog - nothing seems to be different. Still no option to copy voice mail messages.
you purchased iExplorer?
you plugged in your phone to the computer that is running iExplorer.
in the left pain click "Backups" then messages. if no backup exists it will ask you to load backup Data from "YOUR DEVICE NAME HERE" Click YES.
Backup is performed.
select your messages, I still haven't purchased iExplorer and this works for me.
