Connecting MircroKorg using MIDI-USB cable

Hi

I am trying to connect a microkorg to my iMac using a midi to usb cable, to use it as a controller in logic pro 9, but I can't seem to get it to work.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Umm...

The only thing I can think of.. is to do the following...

Unplug your Usb Cable form the Mac

Delete the USB2.0-MIDI 'device' from the Audio Midi Setup App

Reboot your Mac

Plug the USB cable back in

Go back into Audio Midi Setup and confirm it has been readded and the check box is checekd for "device is online'

Make sure below that, under Ports that the Midi Port shows up in the list... If not press the + button to the bottom left of that small window and add the Port Midi out = 1 and Midi in = 1

Now start up Logic again and test as before...

I just looked at the cable you purchased and realized I have one of those as well, I had it for a spare and to carry around. Does it have a small music clef picture on it? It works perfectly well with my PC and Mac, although on the Mac it took a restart to find it but it worked fine after that.

Let me ask this, it has a Red power light on it, is the light on? It also has a Green light when ever MIDI is transmitted from the keyboard, do you see that.

Pancenter,

In case you missed this bit by the OP...

Ok so i'm in the Midi window of the Audio/Midi set up app and it has three things in in. "IAC Driver", "Network" and "USB2.0-MIDI" which I presume is what i'm looking for, where do I go from here?

...so it appears the USB Midi is being recognized by OS X... just no data is arriving at Logic it seems..

I checked with the OP to make sure it was 'online' too and it was....

The OP confirmed he was using the Midi Out port and not the Midi Thru port on his MicroKorg.. and we switched the cables over, just in case they were labelled incorrectly and still no go...

I also checked out the MicroKorg manual to check if the Korg had any form of software switch that turns outgoing Midi on and off.. and no.. there is nothing like that on the Korg...

Hence my loss of ideas.... and the way i was troubleshooting....

The only other thing that I can't check for but is a possibility, is that the Midi Out on his keyboard isn't functioning... or the cable itself is faulty...and Midi data is not being sent/received/Recognized by OS X...and therefore Logic.

Hi again. I have used the keyboard's midi ports many times before when using it with an MPC, so i'm pretty sure it's not them. It could be logic I guess but I purchased it very recently and havn't changed any of the midi settings. I'll try downloading the midi monitor tommorow when i've got some time and will report back how it goes.

Thanks again for all the help.

There's two separate connections with a USB device, a data connection and a power connection, if the data connection is working the Computer may see the device but it will be nonfunctional, if the power is good but no data connection the device will power up (lights...etc) but not be seen by the computer. That why I asked about the two lights on the device, one is a power light (red) the second is a data light, (green)

That will definitely tell what's going on.

Probably, you do have the cable end marked IN plugged into the MIDI OUT port of the Korg.

There definitely should be a green light blinking everytime a MIDI signal is sent from the keyboard. Modulation wheel, keypress.. anything that sends a MIDI signal should make the green light blink if the cable is working correctly.

Do you have any other devices with a MIDI out?

You did try a different USB port.
