Evanxu,
RAW support is integrated into Mac OS X. When Apple releases an OS update that also includes RAW file support for new cameras all applications that process RAW files are subsequently enabled. As a Nikon user since the D300, I've seen previous RAW file support from Apple for new cameras within a month or two of a new Nikon. It makes sense that Apple most likely releases RAW supoport for Mac OS X in batches, and not every time a new camera hits the market. Since the D7100 began shipping the week of March 18, I don't expect a Mac OS X update that inlcudes RAW file support for the new Nikon until April or May. This is merely the nature of the beast. I only shoot in RAW, so I'll wait on my purchase of the D7100 untill it's supported in Mac OS X.
And if it hadn't lined up with Adobe's 3-month release cycle, they wouldn't have had support for 2 more months. That's happened many times before.
I'm an Apple guy, big time. We have 5 iPhones, 5 iPads, Airport Extreme, Airport Express, MacBook Pro, yada, yada, yada....
Here's the deal though - this secrecy stuff is getting old. Other companies like Adobe are showcasing their goods well before they're released (i.e. beta programs). The Final Cut Pro debacle and now the Aperture FAIL is a bit too much for me. Wondering what will be in Aperture 4, the next iOS, when they might be released, the cost of the new iMac and Macbook line, etc... is making me think twice about staying loyal to Apple.
The bottom line is Adobe is doing it right and catering to a community of creative folks by listening to their customers and delviering feature rich products that are in sync with what end users are asking for. They do software, and they do it well.
I'm not a professional photographer by any means, but I am impressed with what Lightroom has to offer. So much in fact that I haven't opened Aperture in over a month.
Clean it up Apple, clean it up.
Hehe. I know you're not supposed to do it; I mean there are signs everywhere, "Don't feed the Trolls!". But it's just so much fun. I mean just a little cant hurt, right? But definitely don't feed them after midnight, that's just crazy everyone knows that. ....Oh my, look at the time. Got'a go. C Ya.
Makes me sick how long it takes for the worlds most profitable, richest computer/software company to do a simple compatibility update for their already neglected series of Apps.
People have been talking about Aperture 4 11 months ago, everyone was "ooh I bet it will be announced with Mountain Lion", "oooh I'm sure it's around the corner"... 11 months ago folks... that's a long time to wait for an update.
Just like their iLife is practically a joke these days.
Such a massive disappointment in a company... it's rare I've ever felt it so much as I do for this one. You betrayed me Apple and I'm sorry I ever worked for you and did your dirty work for you...
Shameful...
feel free to go to the dark side...it isnt any better
they are a big company. they do the best at trying to solve issues...maybe this isnt as important to them as it is to you..
maybe getting "maps" right should be a more major concern....IMO...
calm down..find a work around...move on
calm down..find a work around...move on
That's exactly what I did - LightRoom 4 user now, full time. Looking forward to LR5 release in the coming weeks.
Fully Enjoying the Dark Side Amigos,
Nikon D7100 Owner

I just installed this update (both automatcially through the Apple store and manually via the download page). Rebooted yet aperture still wont display my Nikon D7100 RAW (NEF) files. I have also tried reprocessing the images in Aperture. Anyone else having this problem or am I missing something?
The previous raw camera updated from adobe enabled me to import the d7100 raw NEF files into photoshop via the importer
Worked like a charm (except it shuts down after you choose an image - have to restart it to do further images)
Same problem here. Installed the update. Restarted computer. Restarted Aperture. No go on the Nikon d71000 Raw files.
I installed RAW compatibility update 4.06 and not only did Apeture recognize newly uploaded .NEF raw files from my D71000, it also recognized the previous .NEF files that I had imported into Apeture that were in the Apeture Library but showed the "file format not recognized" message in the Apeture browser.
If you were using the Adobe DNG Converter workaround, you might want to check that you're importing from the correct location, and that your import settings are set to import raw images.
Also if you have some of those "unrecognized" images use the REPROCESS ORIGINAL command and they will come alive in your browser.
On my iMac they are recognized now, on my mac mini, same situation, only the macbook refuses to do so.
Hey guys, I'm a big Time apple fan. In fact I used my iPad and iPhone with my Airport Express and played music to my 2nd sone all weekend. Awesome technology working the way it should....
As far as photo editing goes Apple is waaaaay behind the curve. I've been using Lightroom for almost 6 weeks now and after installing the Aperture update I've come to the realization that photo editing is no longer apple's sweet spot. For me, I am no longer using a aperture for photo management. Sure, photo stream is nice, and I feel that the social media plugins are better on aperture, but when it comes down to skin tones, white balancing, spot correction, teeth whitening, skin smoothing, vignette, and photoshop integration there's no comparison. Lightroom wins hands down.
Download the free trial and check it out for yourself.
Judge for yourself. Peace.
Dont know what I did wrong before but just reprocessed my images in Aperture again and now everything is working fine! 🙂
