iMessage not syncing between Mac and iPhone

If I send an iMessage from my iPhone, it will send it no problem. When the other iPhone user responds, it will send their response to my iPhone and Messages app on my MacBook Pro, as it should, but if someone iMessages me without me making first contact, then my iPhone will not receive it, but my Message app will. All account info (Apple ID, password, etc.) between the two apps is correct. I'm running OSX Mountian Lion 10.8.3 on my MacBook Pro and I have an iPhone 4S running iOS 6.1.3. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

iChat ending archive folders can be opened in TextEdit but are not that readable.

Basically the iMessages or in fact any message are a series of info that is a bit like HTML to describe the balloon and it's colour and the font and it's colour (if they are older iChat ones)

Then it includes the text.

The Archive holds them as dated items.

The app can string them together to produce the "history" of several sessions or days (or longer) of chat.

As you say trying to "add" a single chat into the "history" is difficult.

I am not sure it can be done.

This app is old but in early Yosemite when I last tested it is can open Archived .iChat files

It will do your whole folder if you are not selective.

It strips away the Balloon and other presentation data leaving the Text.

This can then be put in a TextEdit documentation.

Slightly off track I would use pictures of the Chat along with a Text file just to show the Text file is not edited.

I was a diehard Apple supporter. That's over since I started dealing with IOS a few years ago. Nothing works the way it is supposed to. Nothing. I am online several times a week looking for workarounds.I remind myself that people are hungry and maybe it doesn't matter that I can't sync my devices, but I paid hundreds of dollars for features that rarely work. i am up for an upgrade. My.Next phone will not be an Iphone. It is unreliable.

I figured out why my messages weren't syncing between my iphone and new macbook.

iPhone: Settings/ Messages / Text message Forwarding -

My iPhone was forwarding to the name I had for my old macbook and not the name I had for my new macbook.

After changing the forwarding name on my iPhone, my texts came back in on my macbook.

I hope this is helpful to somebody.

Hi,

This Thread is in Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.x or Messages 7.x.x)

The features you post about do not arrive until iOS 8 on the iPhone and Yosemite (OS X 10.10) on the Mac.

Syncing Text (SMS) Messages as you describe will not cure the issue if the device cannot do basic syncing n the first place.

Hi Ejacko -

- I appreciate your forward thinking! I am having trouble with imessage on my Imac (10.9.5) and Iphone (4s - 9.2.1).

once upon a time they were talking to each other but this seems to have stopped and I am not 'i' savvy enough to work out why.

As you advised in your earlier comment I have checked in settings on the phone that iMESSAGE is clicked on but I cant see anything saying TEXT MESSAGE FORWARDING.

can you advise - its driving me potty!

Cheers from Old-girl (UK)
