iPhone and iPad discrepancy with iMessages

Recently I have been recieving some random iMessages on my iPad, but not my iPhone. This is really annoying as I do not check my iPad until much later and find I have missed messages. I can't work out why it is happening, but I need them on my phone too! I also couldn't reply to some of them from my ipad. I have all send/recieve iMessage options ticked on my phone (such as emails). Is it a problem with my phone or ipad? Or both? 🙂 Please help!!
