SMC firmware causes problems

I have been out of town. I returned last night and downloaded a bunch of updates, including a new firmware update. As soon as I installed it (the firmware) my intel iMAC started acting funny. My computer became noticeably slower and sort of jerky. The colored spinning ball appears for much longer than ever before. The chess game is very slow and unresponsive. I see others are having this problem too. How do I remove this firmware and go back to the old firmware?

I have the same problem
My iMac worked perfectly before SMC firmware update (iMac firmare is already installed)

In my case, all PowerPC programs that worked fine through Rosetta now frezzes completely the iMac and I have to restart pressing the power button.

Anybody knows how to reinstall previous version of SMC Firmware???
I had not problem with fans, etc. I installed this update because is recommended in Apple Software Update service.

In my case if I run Symantec Norton Antivirus LiveUpdate option, or some options of Roxio Toast 7 Platinum (always worked fine before update) or I try to mount DVD/CD ISO images, the Mac freezes completely

It could be interesting to know how to test if Rosetta is running. It appears that this part of MacOS on Intel is deactivated.

Thanks in advance
Jose

I have not installed the SMC update on my imac. I thought i would wait since i had no issues regarding starting up since the security update. I did however upgrade to the latest firmware when i first got my imac. The only way i overcame my toast and unrarx problems was to do a clean install and not install any updates whatsoever. So at the moment i am just running 10.4.4. I am just installing the software that came with my imac from the dvds.
