URL in Pages displays correct link, but Safari goes to wrong page ...

I simply want to make a URL in Pages and have it hyperlink to the web. Easy - but something is messed up... I have my own website (www.trivue.org) which I made through iWeb (published to a folder and then dragged to the trivue domain instead of pulishing to my .mac account to make it look more official!). So, through iWeb, I have a hyperlink, and all I want to do it copy that hyperlink into Pages, and export that (with a few other hyperlinks) as a PDF. Does this sound simple? - it is. But... it's not, otherwise I wouldn't be on the discussion boards! This works fine for every URL, but wih some recent URL's I have been copy~paste(ing) into the PDF *FROM MY TRIVUE WEBSITE * there have been some flukes.

See how the number in the URL slot reads 20? Now, look what happens when I click that same exact hyperlink after only hitting "return" to acknowledge the link in the inspector:

See how the number in the URL reads 2520 - WHY DOES IT DO THAT!!!

to make the URL work, simply delete the "%20" and replace it with a space. I would also suggets to add "www", so that the URL reads like this:
"http://www.trivue.org/All Movies/SPLC.html".

Several characters aren't allowed in URLs directly but have to be encoded. %20 is a code for a space, and Pages automatically translates spaces in URLs to this value. Since you entered %20 as characters, the percent-sign, which also cannot be used directly in URLs, gets encoded to %25. This results in the invalid URL shown in Safari.

BTW: if you can, you should avoid spaces in URLs. You could use the underscore "_" instead of a space (e.g. "http://www.trivue.org/All_Movies/SPLC.html")

Wow - thanks for the great answer. I can't wait to try it! Actually, my son is creating the document in Pages. When I created the website using iWeb - it (iWeb) creates the URL, not me. I need to figure out how to tell iWeb to stom making me links with a "%20" in the URL! Why would Apple do that?

Thank you very very much for your reply. It ws VERY frustrating for us to see the link be pasted properly in PAGES - only to" modify itself" when it was clicked.
So now I must see how to control how iWeb sets up its links.

The %20 is actually caused by your putting a space into a page name in iWeb. Since spaces are not allowed in url's, they get replaced by %20. To fix this, use underscore or hypen instead of space in your iWeb page names (or use just one word).

%20 is fine in a url, but the link creating system in pages decides that the % ought to be encoded too, and changes this to %25, giving you $2520 instead of just %20. I think that behavior may be a bug.

You guys are unbelieveably good! Thank you, Tom. Actually, I MYSELF created this website - and believe me when I tell you - I have no idea what I'm doing. BUT - we got the movies to autoplay, thanks to these chat boards, and solved numerous other issues.
Anyway . . . a fast question . . . "I personally" don''t actually create the URL - "iWeb" does, after I reated a page. But I think I may know what you mean . . .

Yes, iWeb makes it, but it does so by copying the names you give the pages. So your pages named Movies 1, Movies 2, Contact Us, and Ward Burton Photos will all have %20 in the url. If you put underscores or hyphens in place of the spaces, the %20 will be gone.

More complex web design programs let you give pages two different names, one for the link and one for the url. You can also do this in iWeb if you forget the navbar and make up you own separate hyperlinks for going from page to page.

(Don't put spaces after < and before >. I had to insert them, otherwise the message would try to display an image (as you can see in my first posting).

hey Eric,

getting the pictures on any blog type website, (apple discussions, myspace, xanga, etc.) is actually fairly easy. First, you need to somehow get your pictures that you want to post in a "tag" form by posting them on the web. There are many sites that are completly free to do this at, I personally use photobucket (www.photobucket.com) but there are many others. Simply upload your image to the account you make, and copy the "tag" link. Then just paste it in the main blog box and it should automatically link to that exact picture, considering you NEVER CHANGE IT AT ALL IN ANY WAY EVER! That's all there really is to it!
