As soon as I updated my software today on the 4s, my gmail is not working. Is anyone else having this issue and how do I fix? Thanks

Both the iOS Mail app and the gmail app will not load. After I updated the software this morning, I went to check my email in the iOS Mail app and it seemed as if the emails were loading and then I got kicked out back to home screen.

I tried deleting the gmail account and then re-add the Gmail account. Once I hit 'Verify' I get spit back into the home screen without loading the gmail acct.

Then I downloaded the Gmail app and I am having the same issue.

Hi, I also have this problem with my iPhone 4S, 6.1.3. The problem is with the ios mail rather than the gmail app. I have deleted the account from the phone and then tried to add it but it wont let me. The symptoms are exactly the same as Susan's. Gmail still works on my ipad (6.1.3 also). Confused? I have tried resetting the phone but no luck.

Help! (please)

Thanks for speedy reply.

I can't/don't want to restore the phone as I am unable to back it up! It keeps telling me an error occurred and that I was unable to back up the phone. In other words I'll lose all my stuff. This is the second time that I have had this problem with the iPhone not being able to be backed up and it could not be solved.

May have to bite the bullet and set up as a new phone. Apple products/updates getting less and less impressive as I seem to be getting more and more problems with my macbook/imac/ipad's etc......

If you're getting this error when trying to backup, your phone is a lot more screwed up than just the gmail issue. The data on your phone is corrupted and the only solution is to restore as new.

I seem to be getting more and more problems with my macbook/imac/ipad's etc......

Not in my case or any of the many people I know who use mutiple Apple producs.

I had the same problem with my 4S - native mail app and Gmail app both crash when trying to check mail ever since I downloaded iOS 6.1.3. I decided to restore my phone per the advice of many and ran into a number of issues so was forced to restore from a 6-month old backup. That worked, but the mail app and gmail app still crash when I try to use them!! So in other words, the restore and loss of 6 months of information was for nothing. On top of that, my phone is now plugged into my computer and as itunes is trying to backup and sync, I'm getting a message prompting me to set a password for encrypted backup - I'm not being asked to enter the password I used 30 minutes ago to run the restore, but I'm being asked to set a new password by entering it twice. I have entered a number of passwords, including the one I used 30 minutes ago, only to get a message that says, "The password you entered to protect your iPhone backup could not be set. Please try again." No matter what password I try to set, iTunes won't take it. I am at a total loss. Please help!

PS - I downloaded the latest iTunes today, and I use a Windows 7.

I canceled the backup/sync and followed a new prompt to change (as opposed to set) my password. I did this and kicked off a backup...only to get this error, "iTunes could not back up the iPhone [iphone name] because an error occurred." I am at a total loss and now have a phone that only partially works and can't be backed up. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas as to what's going on. Thank you!

Today I was facing the same problem... No mail all day long...

I checked my mailserver and it appeared that no connection-attempt came in... My iPhone 5 was on 3G...

I powercycled the iPhone and gave it another try: All mail arrived at once.

So maybe switching off the iPhone and on again is good enough, yet faster and safer than reinstalling it...
