iOS 6.1.3 battery drainage

If you read the entire thread, you'll see I've stated several times that I get 8 hours usage out of my phone when it's acting normally. I also refer to my S3 several times too. The S4 was released in the UK.

I'm not denying issues, otherwise I'd not be here right now. But mine seem exclusive to chrome and the logging in of my account and sync.

I recommend everybody testing logging out of chrome and turning of the sync option. It's amazing how much of an impact it has on my battery.

It seems there are lots of issues relating to syncing and battery. The last one was with exchange? Apple need to sort this out for those who haven't managed with the suggested fixes.

Have you even tried half the suggestions? Have you logged out of Chrome?

Either way, my iPhone 5 battery is around 8 hours usage even when gaming, Internet etc. With chrome logged in and sync turned on, I get 4 hours, which is insane.

Curiously have you owned an Android? I've owned many and the batteries are always worse than iPhones.

It doesn't matter. Chrome has nothing to do with the topic. This is about ios 6.1.3 draining the battery. Not about Chrome.

I've already given the issue. The issue is that ios 6.1.2 and 6.1.3 is reporting the incorrect battery %. Your % goes down like a rocket until your phone dies. Also the % jumps around for no reason and many people are reporting their phones die at 15% pr 10%.

This isn't a Chrome issue. It is an iOS issue.

Get on topic and get it through your head.

Also just to acknowledge the troll who keeps saying Chrome is off topic. 1. All any of us care about is a fix, whether that's a setting or an app change or something else.

2. Maybe Chrome worked fine prior to 6.1.3 but now there is an incompatibility. Or perhaps Chrome updated around the same time as 6.1.3 and we are wrongly blaming 6.1.3.

The fact is, there are likely several different bugs causing battery drain. That's why not all of us can find a solution.

But my guess is that nearly all of them are caused by data. I.e data trying to send or sync and getting stuck in a loop that kills the battery. I've noticed on days that the iCloud backup didn't compete overnight, my battery does faster. Odd.

My partner didn't have Chrome installed. So I installed it last night and logged in to my account with sync on. And sure enough his battery started to drain. He doesn't have a Google account so I couldn't tell if it was specific to my account or not.

Everybody should also ensure they've turned off Push in the advanced mail section for your iCloud account.

If it were me, and none of this worked, I'd take my phone to the Apple store and request a new phone.

I really wish Apple would publically acknowledge these issues and at least tell us that they're working on a fix.

Final thought, I picked up a Mophie air juice pack case from Apple the other day, it's great and gives me almost an extra 100% charge. It adds some bulk but looks cool and makes me feel safe I.e. I don't worry about using my battery.

Don't buy via Amazon, it's full of fake Mophies, I purchased 2 prior to getting it via Apple.

I keep checking several times a day for 6.1.4 update. Anybody else do that? :D

The issue is iOS 6.1.3. Even with all features off, since 6.1.2 my phone exhibits the same issue. 2 people with iPhone 5's noticed the same issues. 1 person with an iPhone 5 has experienced the same problem as mine. When I updated my wife's 3Gs to 6.1.3, she started having the same issue.

Issue is, misreporting battery %.

It gets compounded by iCloud ad other things, but te underlying problem is 6.1.3.

Most people don't report it. They just, like my wife, have no time for this and just carry a USB cord and charge the phone.

Not everyone with a battery issue comes here to talk about it. You can't go by the numbers here and say we are the only ones. There are millions of people with cheap battery life who don't post here. They just live with it.

On a fresh install of iOS 6, I don't have this problem but this is an unreasonable long-term use case.

I installed 6.1.4 on my 64GB iPhone 5 and there hasn't been an apreciable increase in runtime.

This issue, for me, doesn't really conincide with an iOS update. I had terrific battery life with iOS 6.1.3 until recently.

My only success has been to kill apps that seem to keep background-persistent data connections open and the current version of Facebook (the one that added stickers and chat heads) is a big one in my experience. If I kill Facebook (in the app tray) my battery life seems to go back to about normal (i have two exchange accounts loaded with push notifications so its still not perfect). I haven't tried turning off the iOS Facbook service but perhaps that's another option?

I bought a used iPhone 4S (6.1.3) a month or two back to update to from my iPhone 4... before activating the iPhone I notced the battery life would drain quickly. Not that it would die instantly, but a general drain that just always happened. I had heard some people experience issues and others don't, so I traded the iPhone 4S for a couple other divices I was looking for. New owner didn't have to worry about battery life due to using the phone at home all the time.

Fast forward to today. I bought another iPhone 4S that had 6.1.3 and got it this weekend. Received from the mail carrier yesterday, powered on and it was nearly at 100% battery, locked the screen and let it sit all of yesterday until this morning when I went to use it. Battery life was less than 20% and the battery indicator was red. No, the device was not sitting looking for Wifi, or attempting to activate.

The iPhone 4 (5.1.1) I was using that whole day and left off the charger overnight had more power than the iPhone 4S that was left not using any type of data all day/night.

In my book there is an issue with 6.1.3 with battery. I am unsure whether it affects all devices, whether it is the result of upgrade vs. being preinstalled. I just know I've owned two 4S's and both had this issue, that's a pretty good batting average in my book.

Well at least I now have an effective workaround in case IOS 7.0 (or whatever they call it when it's released for general consumption) fails to address the battery drainage issue. I'm now 9.5 hours into my second day of not having to keep the phone on charge. The battery is showing 66% which means I'm losing around 3.5% per hour. Hopefully this workaround might at least work for some people if they can be bothered to manually reinstall their apps over WiFi. For me it was well worth the effort.

My 4S has also had terrible battery life since 6.1.3. I did remote diagnostics with Apple chat and they confirmed my battery was fine. They said several apps, including internal Apple apps, were "corrupt".

I've done several hard reboots, turned off iCloud, blue tooth, all alerts, updates, etc. last night I turned off every app and went to bed with 100% charge. This morning it was at 60%. I used to wake up at 99%. Argh!!!

Wish I could just roll back.

This also worked for me -- I deleted Instagram, Vine, Facebook, and Twitter. 4 apps I use most. The phone corrected itself overnight! Mind you, it's a brand new phone from apple (I had applecare+). Anyways, try deleting these apps. I reinstalled Instagram and everything was fine. I JUST reinstalled Twitter, and hopefully that's not the issue. Tonight I'll reinstall facebook and vine. I tried following easy steps and my iphone4 with version 6.1.3 battery has terribly improved. It last one complete day without recharing, no need to turn off wifi, bluetooth or celluar data

- Download an app for deleting multiple contacts at once, i used free app "contactclean"

- Delete duplicate conatcts, I just deleted for alphabets A and B

- Restart Iphone

- Charge it to 100% and check the battery life

This worked extremely well in my case. Hope this helps .....

disable emails and turn off 3g and wifi if you dont use them also turn off icloud and facetime and imessage this is the only solution for now untill apple releases a fix

ok another trick is to disable all the notifications and localisation service.this is the way it is apple should really think about this

Same problem on both my iphone 5 and my wifes iphone 4. Even with WIFI and bluetooth off and EVERY APP closed with from 100% to 49% in 5 hours on the 5 and 29% on the 4. DO NOT UPGRADE !!! My son's iphone 4 WITHOUT the update is fine. IS THERE A FIX ?

Updated two iPhone 5s 32 GB and discovered the same problem.

It is not that the phone is losing battery power any faster it is that even when plugged in and screen indicates it is charging, it is not charging, it is an illusion. You can confirm this yourself.

Also try flipping the lightning cable over, likely that when flipped, the phone will not even recognize insertion of the lightning cable.

I conducted various tests to confirm identical problem on both phones within minutes of 6.1.3 install. swapped cables, power supplies, etc. to rule out all other causes.

Apple store was able to see my problem, was unable to resolve the problem and replaced both phones with phones running 6.1.2.

Problem now resolved

Do not update to 6.1.3
