iOS 6.1.3 battery drainage

I too have been experiencing severe problems with my iPhone 4s after upgrading to 6.1.3. Problems comprising

1. iPhone gets really hot
2. Battery drains much faster
3. iPhone has trouble connecting to my home wifi, but for some reason not at work(?)

My solution for the first two points have been to switch off the 3g and mobile data option in settings. This extents battery life quite a bit and again allows me to use the phone as an alarm in the morning without charging it over night.

The third problem comes and goes. Every once in a while, it connects perfectly for hours and hours, but then suddenly can't connect for a few hours. Frustrating, as I also use the iPhone to control my Sonos music system in my living room.

You can't help to wonder when Apple finds a viable solution...?

it is funny all these tips and tricks and jumping through hoops... for me it was simply, turn off push. Thats it. if i turn it back on i love battery at incredible speeds.....3g/wifi off.. and its back to normal (like 6.1.2) i have facebook on, email at 15mins, etc .. everything else normal.

for those who have not tried it, just turn off push and see fi that works before trying all these crazy ways

Biggest help I have found is turning off Facebook notifications from inside the app and in settings.

Also, turn off location services for passbook, otherwise it is finding out where you are every time you unlock your phone just in case you are near a Starbucks (for example)

I've fixced this issue for several iPhone in our company by resetting the network settings on the iPhone. Settings->General->Reset->Reset Network Settings.

Hello guys, had the same problem with battery drainage after updating to 6.1.3 - BUT it gone when i did RESET my IPHONE in itunes. Now it's back to normal. Try it!

TURN OFF FACETIME IN SETTINGS AND BATTERY PROBLEM FIXED! FaceTime was the culprit!

You've tried everything, including turning off your email accounts, rebooting and turning them back on, killing all of the apps in the Quick Launch ribbon, Restoring the phone from backup, Restoring the phone as new, and it still drains the battery, even after restoring as New and not adding any email accounts, apps or other content? If that's true then your phone is broken; take it to an Apple store for replacement.

I tried letting the battery run down and then recharging it but had no luck, so I did a restore through itunes and this finally seems to have done the trick (fingers crossed). Not sure if others will have success with this method or not but if you're running out of ideas restore is a relatively painless and (potentially) effective solution.

iOS4 i could keep my iPhone4 w/o recharge upto 15 days.

iOS5 it went down to 10 days.

iOS6 it's less than 7 days.

iOS 6.1.3 about 3 days, until fixed.

Main reason for battery drainage is Cellular Data. Since iOS5 I had to disable Cellular Data then not used.

I have everything turned off as recommended in various tips and tricks. I have never Jailbroke my iPhone.

I am using a App called Netstat to monitor internet connections.

In iOS5 iPhone started to connect to Apple-Push even if Notifications were off, which it didnt in iOS4.

Biggest battery drainer is keeping iPhone logged in at iTunes & App Stores.

I noticed yesterday after several days on frustration on why my iPhone dropped 10% charge in 4 hours,

that it was logged into Music/Home Sharing as well. Logged out and Battery has drained 5% since yesterday.

Thats 24 hours and 5% drainage. Acceptable for me.

Since upgrading battery *****.....I found that when I access calendar...it doesn't stop accessing server. I opened quick launch on bottom and deleted calendar there and it stopped accessing. Battery almost seems normal. I have an iphone 5 and an iPad which I synch in the cloud. That is where issue is. Apple get this right.

Ok - this may or may not work for everyone - but I simply turned off everything in the Cloud. Fixed the battery drain issue - the only thing left open is 'Find my iPad" which is an app and not an iCloud 'feature.'

I have an iPhone and an iPad Mini that I have NOT updated - but I made the mistake of updating my iPad 3 last weekend and the battery life went into the toilet.

I'm not worried about my Cloud since I have three other devices counting my Macbook Pro -

So - turn off everything in the Cloud and let Apple fix it - once it is fixed - go back to the cloud if you need it for you iOS device.

Mixed reviews about 6.1.3. I tried everything in this thread then tried the following --

1. Did a restore from itunes and set up phone as a new phone -- a lil difference in battery

2. Deleted the IOS 6.1.3 packages from itunes and re downloaded it and did a restore and did a restore from backup from icloud. -- Better Battery performance than any other methods i tried so far.

3. Deleted IOS 6.1.3 packages from itunes, re downloaded it,did restore and setup phone as a new phone -- First 1 hour battery never went down. I was on wifi and watsapp using it now and then, suddenly after 1 hour battery started draining faster....didnt open any apps or anything...strange.

Noticed Bluetooth is set on by default after restore not sure why. Also it seems like if your on wifi and ur 3g is on....it doesnt seem to put 3g off which may point to battery drain. If your on wifi why would you use 3g at the same time? doesnt make any sense....IOS should put it off automatically. This used to happen in my previous andriod phone. I guess i will re do the step 2 i mentioned above again and just wait for a new update. I love IOS over any other mobile OS but I would like to use the phone the way i want to without worrying too much about battery life.

Tried this and it worked for me. I have 4S and had no battery probs before 6.1.3. This morning I left house fully charged on wall charger and was down to <20% before 5 PM with minimal usage(no calls, checked email only).

Yes, exactly.. You could hold phone and watch it drop minute by minute and phone got hot. Too bad there isnt a phone feature like ACTIVITY MONITOR!

So I just put 6.1.3 on but had gone into Settings ICloud and TURNED OFF ALL features... Then after all done turned them on again. No Batt drop yet and phone not hot...but time will tell.

I think there's more to it than that see my experience below:

I've spent a lot of time on this, so will try and summarise.

I have an old (3yr-ish) iphone 4. Although the battery was well used, prior to the 6.1.2 update it would last from 7am to midnight with no problem. Usage was calls, text, hotmail and Words with Friends, not much else.

Immediately after the 6.1.2 update , the battery started to drain very quickly, it would last maybe 4-6 hours. Nothing else had been changed on the phone.

I followed all advice I could find on the net, and ended up restoring as a new device, installed no Apps and didn't configure hotmail. Still had the same problem, although it might last an hour longer..

Waited a few weeks and installed 6.1.3. Same problem.

Spent two days on the phone with a very helpful lady from Apple California to try and resolve.

Basically, I reinstalled the phone as a new device and monitored.

Couldn't improve the situation.

Went to apple store. They checked it out and said something strange was happenin, with the battery readings on their diagnosis software, some sort of mismatch that might be resolved with a firmware upgrade. ( sorry, I can't remember exactly what it was!). Firmware upgraded, same problem.

Advised to get a new battery.

New battery installed and things have improved, my battery now lasts from 7am till about 7pm. I have no apps installed and only have light call, text and hotmail usage.

I am using it less than before the update, I have a new battery and still have less battery life.

I have another friend who has experienced battery drain and a couple who haven't (iphone 4 and 4Ss)

My conclusion is this:

My original battery was not as good as it used to be.

A new battery is much better.

IOS update 6.1.x is probably much more battery Hungry than previous versions.

It appears to absolutely hammer a specific group of iphone models but not others, maybe a certain batch/chipset/firmware version or mix of the three.

If this doesn't affect you it doesn't mean there isn't a real problem, it is very frustrating and disappointing.

I guess at some point apple will sort it out, when they do, I might buy an iphone 5, otherwise, I feel like I'm being pressured into it!!! :)
