    Hi JohannBelet,

    The problem with battery drainage goes far beyond a 3G/Edge auto detection issue. Put this this way. My one month old Wifi IPAD 4 is having serious battery problem after upgrading to 6.1.3.  I have turned off everything Bluetooth, Push, iClound, Mail Calendar ..etc everything and restore the device twice as new device and battery still only last 3 - 4 hours as compared to 10 - 12 hours before.


    Nothing works. 6.1.3 is seriously flawed and I am so annoyed that Apple has elected to stay silence on this wide spread problem. There is no downgrade option ether so this an expensive paper weight and toaster

    That's interesting. My iPhone 5 is on o2 in the UK, which doesn't yet support LTE/4G and I only have a 3G switch to turn it on or off, no LTE settings at all.


    Apple should give us full control over data connections.

    Ok i wasn't aware of that because i have an iPad 2 with 6.1.3 and detected no problems with battery . Plus my iPhone 4 was on 6.1.3 too and no battery problems (just used to the fact that battery stay charged a bit less longer after any major updates but nothing dramatical). So i believed naturaly that the problem came from cellular data.


    @Realmaverick: Ok, that's weird ^^. Maybe carriers can set thoses settings?  Or maybe it depends on the country setting before shipping. I was always wondering what kind of setting are in the carrier settings update i had to do every major IOS updates (4,5,6).

    But yes, we should be able to choose data connections anyway.

    Your service provider controls what connection type is used on their network.  Apple makes the phones compatible with a majority of connection types but when you connect to a cell signal it is controlled by your service provider, not Apple.  Most often their is a hierarchy of auto connection signal types but each carrier controls how the system works via the SIM card data they program.  You can turn off the phones 3G, 4G, LTE and cellular data (varies by device and service provider) but you can't 'force' it to choose one available signal type over another.  For example; with AT&T I can turn off 'enable LTE' (4G) but in areas with only an LTE signal available it will connect to LTE regardless of the settings.

    Seriously I think it's Apple's problem.I got an iPad3 and an iPhone5,both of them have been upgraded to 6.1.3,

    and whatever i do with the iPad,it drains battery very very slow, the iPhone is opposite.So what we can do is waiting Apple release a firmware or something to fix this problem.

    I'm afraid this problem is not necessarily a 6.1.3 problem. My wife's iPhone 4S started with battery problems two days ago but was upgraded to 6.1.3 ages ago.

    My iPhone 5 started draining today and has done so twice after full charges. This morning in about 4 hours.

    My daughter's iPhone 4, which Does Not have 6.1.3 on it because she has not upgraded yet, started draing today also.


    We have all tried switching off various location services and cutting all apps from background, etc. this does seem to help a little but the batteries are draining crazily fast still.


    We have been using different chargers, etc, etc and tried a number of things. The only unusual thing we have noted is an unusually high (I.e. horrendous amount) of spam suddenly hitting my wife's inbox.


    I don't believe there's a battery problem (hardware) and I don't believe it has anything to do with the upgrade to 6.1.3 since it started on three phones in our household over a few days.


    I am wondering if the is some malicious code or virus out there which is doing this ? Or an app upgrade recently which has some loose code in it ?

    Weird, that's almost as if it'd connect to the cellular (or wifi) network if you switch off that network in the settings. If I deactivate 3G on my iphone 4S, I won't have reception in areas where there is apparently only 3G (which is werid in itself because I'm sure older phones will still work in those areas).

    I just realized from my post above that none of the iPhone setttings for cellular connections can be the cause of the battery drainage after 6.1.3.  None of the iPhone settings to do with Cellular connections should have any affect / change on battery life after the 6.1.3 IOS update.  To the best of my knowledge the cellular connections are controlled by the individual service provider that you have a contract with via the SIM card programming.  The SIM card programming is not changed by an IOS update.  Only the service provider can change the programming or update their own SIM cards.  Since there are people from all over the world with different carriers reporting similar battery drainage issues here, it follows that the actual celluar connection settings cannot not be the problem.  That would mean that all the different carriers made changes to their SIM card programming which now causes some sort of new battery drainage problem, extemely unlikely....   It is possible that 6.1.3 has changed how IOS interacts with the connected cellular signal from your carrier but the phones actual celluar connection settings should be identical to how they were before the update....

    The problem is to simply related to 6.1.3 - see above - three phones in my household have suddenly developed this problem over a few days. One of them DOES NOT have 6.1.3 installed.

    malicious code or virus problem may be possible,as you know many guys get battery drain problem,but how does the malicious code&virus into our phone?APP or Apple's firmware? i charge per day and i am crazy about this now.hope6.1.4 can fix it.

    With AT&T here (Hawaii, USA) there are still areas with only 'Edge' signals, some 3G only areas and some 4G (LTE) only and they all have overlapping signals in certain areas.  If I turn OFF 'Enable LTE' it still connects to LTE when in areas that only have an LTE signal available.  I also have seen my phone, while talking on speaker, switch between all 3 signal types on the same call (seemlessly).  The connection type is controlled by your carrier / SIM as far as how the connection is made from phone to 'tower' (at least here in USA).  Other carriers have different ways that the connections will switch between various available signals.

    Not disagreeing with you, but a majority of those posting here had the battery issue develop imediately after the 6.1.3. update.  I have an ipad 3, ipod 4, iPhone 4 and a iPhone 5 and the only one with issue is my iPhone 5.  Several friends with a mix of 4, 4S and 5's all have had varying results after the 6.1.3 update but none that I know of have had battery issues without the new update.

    It does sound very coincidental I guess.

    My wife actually went and got a new battery in her iPhone yesterday and it drained very quickly yesterday evening - so it isn't the age of the phone or the battery.

    The previous time - a couple of years ago (with my iPhone 4) that power usage was an issue, it seemed to be because the Time-zone detection was constantly accessing the network. I have been checking this and noted, while doing so, that the "genius for apps" location service was on with a purple arrow next to it. I was not in the App Store and was basically not running anything other than mail.

    I have now switched this off, plus the time zone location, etc. I'll see how the power issue is today after a full charge.


    Setting>privacy>location services>System Services (at bottom of page) ... Switch off what you don't need.


    I'm working under the assumption that most apps tell you if they need to access your location and I can choose whether they really do need to or if I can leave them off, so I've switched off most things in the main app list also, apart from the few things I use which do need my location (google maps, Siri, camera).
