Does anyone know if parts from and iPod touch (2nd generation) work with an iPhone 4? Specifically the charge port?

My roommate is pretty handy with working on apple products, but he is not sure if the charge port for my iPod touch (2nd gen) would be interchangeable with his broken iPhone 4. The only problem with his iPhone is the charge port, and I have been without a phone for about 3 months now, and it would be absolutely amazing to join the iPhone family. Now if these are not compatible, we also have a classic iPod and an iPod nano touch that we can harvest parts from if need be. I just can't find this information anywhere, so if anyone knows I would be forever in your debt!
