How can I make FCPX use more of my CPU for rendering?

Hello there!

My Final Cut Pro X is only using about 4% of my CPU. As I use a 12-Core Mac Pro (hypertheading makes it a theoretical 24 Cores), this is the Power of one Core only. But the Activity Monitor shows me that the rendering-process is spread over all the cores, so its not that the program does not support multi-core rendering.

I'm importing H.246-mp4s.

Please help my Mac import and render these files more efficient. Otherwise takes forever...

If the app is spreading the workload accross multiple processors & threads. Then it IS per definition Multi-threaded.

If the workload of the individual processors are not 100% then perhaps your disk is the bottleneck and preventing the processors from delievering full speed. Although I cannot imagine that.

If you feel that all processors SHOULD be reaching 100% (which would lame down the computer) then you should write feedback from the FCPx menu and tell them about it...

Run either 10.8 or 10.9; FCPX performs better on those OS versions than preceding versions.

Install at least 8 GB of RAM; 16 GB is preferable.

Keep Background Rendering off and don't render prior to export.

Keep your projects and events on a good external drive (Tb, FW800 or USB3).

Keep at least 15% free space on the start-up and media drives.

Edit and export Pro Res masters. Use Compressor or MPEG Streamclip to make versions for delivery.
