More accurately, sometimes an iOS update, while not causing an internal problem to the phone, means that an outdated firmware on a wi-fi router no longer recognizes the 'system', so to speak.

It's not that the update breaks the wi-fi; it's that something else needs to be updated as well.

Apple can't fix a problem with another company's wi-fi router firmware being out of date.

Let me explain it again:

If an update to the operating system of Device A causes a problem with Device B, because Device B's operating system is not updated to recognize the updated operating system of Device A, and the issue can be corrected by updating the operating system of Device B, to be compatible again with Device A again...

Then HOW is that the fault of the manufacturer of Device A?

Device B's operating system needs to be upgraded. That's not the purview of the manufacturer of Device A.

So, Apple sold you the third-party Wi-Fi router?

It's like this: if you want to use two separate devices together, then they have to be able to communicate properly. If both devices have updates available, then you update both of them.

If after updating them both to the newest firmware/OS/etc,, they no longer work together, then it's not logical to automatically assume that one device or the other is causing the communication error.

iOS update 6.1.3 is a wifi and Bluetooth killer. I'm out of warranty and refuse to pay $200 for a replacement which can have the issue.

I've gone to the apple store twice, they tricked me. Called apple support and hours later, after consistently defying all three agents... Telling them if its not my fault, why should I have to pay anything?

I have a case number, it's been dragging for a bit but the last person I spoke with I have an email for, case number for. She's assured me she will take it up with the engineers at apple.

Hey, I ain't got $200. Ok. So, I'm hoping apple picks up its pace, fixes this and many other issues and come out with a freaking new phone already. Uh, I hope this post don't get deleted as my previous ones have been. Apple is silent, apple knows (watch this post disappear) they think we'll just hold on, stay frustrated and still not move to android. The freakin problem is they are right there. I choose apple. So, apple get ur act together!

I'll post any updates regarding my case with apple and my wifi greying out and Bluetooth not working.

"Hogwash" lolllllll

Good question, hmmm why is that the update hasn't killed your wifi. Idk. Lets ask apple.

Apple, why haven't you killed hogwashes wifi as you have killed mine? Lets keep this unfair game, fair! Kill his Bluetooth and wifi too! Or fix mine.

Time magazine has an article you could look up regarding this issue.

It's been going on for months. The journalist ended up paying $199.

Your replacement will have a warranty, so if it has the same issue (and you can always have them test it, in store, in front of you, to verify that it does not have the same issue), they would replace it, for free, under warranty.

Apple is willing to replace your $749, out of warranty device, for only $199. That's more than most companies do.

It's not an endemic problem of iOS 6.1.3, or any other iOS, nor of any iPhone. It's a hardware defect, which apparently did not appear in your device until a full year had elapsed. In other words, the device performed, as promised, within the hardware warranty that was provided at time of purchase.

Does it suck to have been the unlucky one that got one of the defective models? Sure. But you have more options available than are actually required for Apple to provide.
