ios 6.1.3 WIFI problem

Hi! I just got a new Iphone 4s back from repair, a new replacment phone. So I updated the hardware to the new IOS 6.1.3 and after that I cant activate my WIFI, the WIFI button is greyed, so the WIFI is unavailable. So what should I do? Send my 3days old Iphone to service agian or what? I personaly think it the new IOS 6.1.3 so please help me

It's not just non-Apple brand chargers that have the problem. While it's very rare, some Apple brand chargers & cables are defective, causing a safety hazard.

So what makes you think those are genuine widespread issues. People may have left their phones inadequately ventilated when charging or suchlike and there will always be a small % of defective and potentially dangerous units f anything mass produced. These issues also don't strike me as being a huge engineering investigation effort to understand root cause. And chargers and batteries are made by different suppliers and different engineers will be experts on those vs quality of board assembly or low voltage componentry.


I see nothing there to compete for Apple's dear time over wifi nor do I see any admission of a problem there either if it is widespread to any degree of significance - which is your general argument. So to me it only reinforces Apple's sucky attitude to problems with their products if I were to believe it is a real problem.

'Wi fi is a want, not a need,' is the most irrelevant and meaningless statement I have ever heard. If I bought a Smart TV, and the 'smart' functions lost capability, the thing is broken. If I bought a raincoat, and the hood fell off, it's broken.


Primary purpose is absolutely irrelevant, and the fact that you say that almost in the product's defence as if it's acceptable for the thing to bust out on what is quite clearly a notable number of devices. Safety over convenience (although that's entirely the wrong word. 'Function' is far more appropriate. You know? Doing something it's meant to - A door doesn't technically need a handle as long as it's got hinges and a light breeze, but you know what? I'd personally like it to have one!). Great. They should both be solved. It's pretty simple.


And I really do appreciate the sales pitch, but I'll decide what device to buy. Thanks for your input though. I'll bear it in mind. Thanks for the sales pitch on the extended warranty as well by the way. Top notch stuff.


@Sid Harper: I've been refraining from this thread quite a while, but some of the sheer nonsense I see has me, as you say, incensed. It's full of seemingly deliberately obtuse statements (masked by wonderful English mind you, because everyone knows good English makes condescension and blank statements okay, right?) just to irk and irritate those of us that are affected. I'm not even angry with Apple. Read my full story on the previous page. I'm just startled by this...arrogance. I don't deserve to be patronised and spoken to like a child.




There are no stats on the issue. It really is that simple. Most people (and I would normally fit under this bracket) wouldn't report the issue, and I highly doubt it's something that can really be analysed from a user point of view.

The only thing that could feasibly be determined is the phones with the alleged 'defect', or at least those with increased susceptibility. It may or may not exist. I don't know. I don't think anyone, and certainly nobody outside Apple would know the answer.


This 'I'm allowed to refrain from showing "stats" because you yourself have none' again has no merit other than to annoy people.


Nothing I have read in the last 10/15 pages has helped me (and may as well not have been posted since all it does is cause friction - food for thought #1), and besides potentially seeking third party help, there's nothing I will do except curb myself for 6 months till I can get an Unlimited data package.




Went to the Geniuses today...they seemed to give me a pre-rehearsed spiel about seeking a replacement. You know what, it's almost as if they've said that before to a significant number of other people... (food for thought #2)

Dude (/dudette), you cannot just leapfrog arguments to whichever takes your fancy or the moral high ground at that particular time. If a car has an engine that's going to explode, that's obviously more important than faulty aircon. However, while the technicians are fixing the engine, somebody is going to be fixing my aircon. If you can tell me that every single technician is working on this so called 'near death experience' iPhone charge (and failing to do so mind you, so they have to continue working on it), then I'll concede.


I suppose you also won't mind if iOS 7 and all its current bugs are entirely ignored for the next 6 months while these men and women are tirelessly remodelling this concern in their undying quest to save more lives.


Look how absurd this argument becomes. I'm sure the whole world wouldn't mind if the 5S and 5C were delayed 18 months, right? They've got perfectly capable phones currently, and it's more important to get these safety issues out of the way before progressing, surely?


You cannot just lob double standards and obvious paradoxes around just to take the moral high ground that you, for some reason, crave.


As I said before, I'm not mad at Apple, and I'm not mad at this fault. I came here to report that it was happening and nothing more. Obviously I'm peeved, but I quickly got over it. But members like yourself do nothing but wind people up and I can't sit idly and watch any longer.

Not much to add - I was going to make the point of delaying new products myself. Of course if you're stuck with a duff device out of warranty though, what better than to try and make you part with more cash for a new product than pay for an out of warranty swap out for another if the product you've lost faith in? Or maybe I'm just being a typical British cynic.


Given we're all hung up on stats clearly thus issue is bugging more people than just us and the handful of other contributors who have expressed a similar concern.


I wonder how many other readers here support our highly vocal friend's viewpoint. Perhaps they will post in his support to balance out the stats right herein this thread.

This will help. I had the same problem of the wifi not working and the switch eventually "graying out".

I was told by apple that my antenna was broke and because my phone is so smart it would not let me turn the wifi on. Knowing this was absolute rubbish, I convinced the 5th person I talked to at apple into sending me a new 4s for free. It arrived and right out of the box (set up as a new phone) the wifi was grayed out. Remember this was a new phone. I was able to convince apple once again to send another new phone. This time the problem started more slowly like my original phone. It would occasionally connect to wifi but inconsistently. The problem worsened. Both phones came installed with the 6.1.3 update. This time the apple rep assured me that the problem was my own. She assured that my problem was unique and that it was due to my router needing to be updated. Even though I had just told her that I was looking at 3 devices:2 macbook pros and 1 iphone 5, that were as we were speaking solidly connected to the wifi. My problems continued to worsen until the wifi seldom worked. Another thing that was consistent with all three phones is that they all got hot which never happened until 6.1.3. The good news is that the 7.0 update immediately fixed the problem. The bad news is, is that Apple couldn't be honest about the problem losing all credibility with me and probably many others as well. The supervisor and other reps all followed the same script. I was told that my problem was unique and that quote "it is impossible for the 3 phones to have the same problem".

You've already made it clear that your wi-fi access is more important to you than someone else's safety. And to me, that's all I need to know about you. You place your own personal 'needs' over the safety of other people. And I find that to be abhorrent.


I acknowledged that I want Apple to fix & address the issue, but that I think their current priorities (safety over 'fixing functions') is valid. You want them to ignore any safety concerns and fix your iPhone right now.


No need to talk any further. You've shown your colors. And you're welcome to your opinion. I just disagree with your point of view, and find it very, very selfish.

As for you effectively telling me not to post any more, I think my comments are much more welcome than yours here. This is a thread about some inconvenience to a minority - as mikebikemusic says why does your highness need to concern yourself with our issues?

Having read some of the previous comments, I myself have the exact same problems with my iPhone 4S.

- unable to turn wifi on

- blue tooth just whirling around.

And these problems occurred shortly after when I updated to IOS 6.1.3.

So like everyone else wifi was f**ked after we all updated to 6.1.3.

Now why won't Apple admit there is a PROBLEM with this and what are they going to do about it!?

Otherwise this is the last time I use Apple.

No nerve touched at all, Sid. Just reading what you've written, and disagreeing with your opinion. You place YOUR wi-fi 'wants' above the safety NEEDS of other people. And that's your right. But I don't have to agree with it at all. And neither does Apple, thankfully.


And I never told you to stop posting. I said there was no need for us to talk anymore, since we understand each other's position. Again, Sid, that's called reading comprehension. You're not going to change my mind. I'm not going to change your mind. Why are you bothering to continue to try?

Ok - iOS updated and found that if i switch on Wifi, the phone hangs altogether and I have to hard reset it to get access to other apps inclusive of making calls.


After bringing the system back alive after hard reset, I should refrain using the 'non-existent' wifi functionality of my iphone - Not even to check if this works by chance! Now, even connecting to 3G has an impact because connecting to wifi will make the phone unresponsive.


People with similar problems, please advice if there are any workarounds for this.
