How to Format an iPod Touch 4G

I'm having some trouble with my iPod Touch and I thought formatting would help me. I'm using windows 8 and when I click on my device in the explorer, a menu appears. In the menu is a format button which opens a format menu. I'm using this menu for a long time but I don't think it's right to use this on my iPod Touch. I've read about a program that can format my iPod made by Apple but I can't find it back again. If I seek for it on google then I get a lot messages about restoring but that's not what I mean. Could somebody please help me out.

(I'm sorry if I've made some typing mistakes, I'm having trouble with my keyboard)

iPod touch (4th generation), iOS 6.1.3, 8 GB

Setup as new.

Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings

iPod touches are not formatted to the computer OS like other iPods. You need to restore as Diavonex says

Alright but will my ipod really be totally formatted when i restore it? And what if i already reformatted my ipod by the windows program? (I haven't done this, I'm just curious)

When you restore via iTunes the iPod is erased and the IOS is reinstalled. So essentially it is reformatted

DiavonexI am kind a new person on this community, I am Mandeep, from India. I have faced the problem about formating iPod touch 4th generation. Whenever i use your recomeded option, screen turend into black and show a loading icon and turn of when its battery is completely discharged. When i start it after charging its battery shows the same apps and songs and other apps. In short this option is not working for me and its Wi-Fi connectivity is also not working. What to do please give me your suggestion....... 😟
