MacBook Air screen is flickering
Hi
My MacBook Air screen is flickering like it wants to go out. I don't know why it's doing this or what I should do to fix it. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Same issue for me. Late 2010 Mac air and the problem started about a month ago after "deep" sleeps. As others have commented, I just close it and it resolves itself after a few seconds. I left it into an Apple reseller store and they charged me 69 euro to say they couldn't find anything wrong but would recommend spending 500 euro on a new logic board. Apple support were unhelpful as the machine was out of warranty and therefore not their problem.
Thanks for these threads. They are very helpful. I guess I'll just wait to see if Apple provide a resolution in the next updates.
Thanks
John
Same exact symptoms on my late 2010 MBA with 1.86 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB, running 10.8.3. The only exception in my case is that my MBA is a 13", not an 11". Restarting or closing the lid for a minute stops the flickering for mine, connecting to AC power does not.
Same problem here. Late 2010 MBA screen flicker. I urge everyone experiencing this issue to send feedback to Apple. The more reports, the quicker it will be resolved.
Apple decided that, even though I told them it appears to be a software issue, they would replace the logic board on my 11" 2010 MBA. Needless to say, it didn't fix the problem.
This is something new:
Now, when it comes out of sleep, I get the flicking screen. When I close the lid and let it sit for a minute and open it again, I get a black screen like the computer is completely turned off. I let it sit for a few minutes and nothing happens. Close the lid again, let it sit and it finally comes back on. If is doesn't, I have to reboot.
This has been going on multiple times a day, every day, for over a month.
My MBA has the same flickering screen, close it and reopen lid until screen works
.
The first day it happened (Nov 2013): I was sending some emails from the road, linked wirelessly to my phones hot spot and closed the lid and placed it in my bag. Less than an hour later I pulled it out of the bag and the bottom was scorching hot! upon opening it the screen was almost all black except for a 2-3" circle in the center was dimly lit. It was a very cold day so I placed it on the deck of the truck to cool, forced a restart and all was good for the rest of the day.
Now: Opening the lid when on battery power and not connected to the wifi it flickers or black screen approximately 1/2 the time... cycle the lid and it comes back.
I only use it plugged in and connected to wifi at the office... never happens there
Just chiming in to say I have the same problem. 10.8.3 on Macbook Air 13" late 2010. Re-close and open the lid 2 seconds later and it's fine.
Ditto to all - flickering screen on a late 2010 MBA running NVIDA card and 10.8.3. : (
Small update: Last 2 mornings I opened with no problems, when plugged in and connected to my preferred wireless.
Left it unplugged for a bit and got the flicker when I opened it... unplugged!?
Yeah, it has to do with when it goes into "deep" sleep, which it will only do when unplugged.
same issue here. any solutions already?
I just had my MacBook Air 11inch late 2010 rehauled by the certified dealer here in Turkey, Now, the screen flickers constantly.... Don't understand what's going on.
Any solutions yet??????
I have the exact same problem. Please Apple provide a solution. It's diminishing everyone's happiness.
I also have the same problem, was about to go out and buy a new macbook before reading this thread. I have late 2010 13" MBA with 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256MB, running 10.8.3. Re-boot fixes the issue until the next time it goes into deep sleep mode.
This is hurting Apples reputation. When I'm with a customer they notice my MBA, sometimes ask me how I like it.... then watch me open and close the lid for sometimes 2-3 minutes trying to wake it.
This morning my MBA was having a whole other issue; no applications were working and unable to connect to wifi. force reboot... Related?
Same problem! I have Macbook Air (mid 2011) running on 1.8.3. Can't find a solution.
